Majella and Claire on our rainforest walk in Kuranda

Well, my time in Cairns is nearly at an end - we leave for New Zealand early tomorrow morning (6am!!). The hostel we've been staying in has been really good - it's called the global palace and is right in the centre of town. Claire, Majella and I have our own room which is good and the lounge room has the biggest tv I've ever seen!! Got to watch Pearl Harbour on it on Sun night. Basically I've just spent 5 days relaxing, reading books and wandering around Cairns. Yesterday we went to Kuranda which was great. We caught the skyrail up - which is basically a 7.5km cable car that goes over the top of the rainforest. The view was great - I could see all the big vines hanging from the trees and every now and then we could spot creeks in between the trees. We got to Kuranda about 11ish and wandered round a bit - it's a very small town and most of the shops were very touristy so we didn't buy anything - though there were some lovely candles that I would have bought if I was going straight home from Cairns! There was a fruit bat sanctuary there that we went to where they look after sick and injured fruit bats. The lady there was holding one while she was talking to it - very cute not at all what I expected :) We caught the scenic train back from Kuranda to Cairns. The views were great - we went past lots of waterfalls and had great views of the rainforest. Overall it was a great day.

Well - tomorrow I'm off to Christchuch so I'll write again from there :)
