Hayward KOA

Tube Shuttle

Tuesday, August 1, we drove to Hayward, Wisconsin. It is a cloudy and cooler today. Nice hour and quarter drive. We arrive at the Hayward KOA in the early afternoon. It is a busy place with pool, water slide, inter-tube rental, bicycle rental and etc. This place probably had more kids than most of the places we have been. Every tree in the place is a TALL pine tree, so most of the 180 parking spots are shaded. There is a shuttle van that takes you and your inter-tube up the river so you can float back down to the campground. Later in the afternoon it starts to rain but some kids did not seem to mind. I watched four kids play volleyball and some others still playing in the pool during the rain.

Wednesday, we did some Wal-Mart shopping, came back to the campground and did laundry. After dinner we went to the Lumberjack show. It was a nice little show with four lumberjacks competing with each other. A very pleasant evening to sit outside and enjoy the show, while much of the U.S. is melting in the heat. We did this show instead of driving to the little town of Spooner and riding the train that I thought we were going to do.

Thursday, August 3, Carol and I went to Hayward's downtown shops to look around and see the tourist shops. I got a haircut while Carol did some shopping. We returned to the campground because today is the first official day of the Great Lakes Tour. We checked in with our tour leader and their assistant leaders and got our nametags and shirts. This evening was the first meeting of the entire group. We had a dinner at Famous Dave's Bar-B-Q. What a great meal. There are 19 rigs and 2 leader rigs on this tour. All rigs are couples except for one guy who is by himself. He lost his wife in April so he decided to go on a group tour instead of going on trips alone. They look like a good group. We will be with this group for about two weeks
