Edgington RV Park, Alamagordo, NM

Drive to White Sands National Monument

We got up around 6:45 this morning. We started getting things ready to get on the road. Jonathan helped Tom while I worked on gettng things ready inside. I walked over to the campground office to see if there was anything that needed to be taken care of before we pulled out. Things in that sense were fine. They had marshmallow guns in the office that we had seen earlier in the week. Tom and I decided to get a set of them for Jonathan for when he played with a buddy. They're made out of PVC pipe and you use miniature marshmallows as the amunition. I was going to surprise Jonathan with them sometime but he found them in the back of the Yukon before we even got on the road. We honked the horn two times like the sign, as we headed out the gate, said to do if you had fun while you were at their campground. Jonathan plugged his ears though.

We drove up through Roswell, known for the aliens landing years ago. We went west through a town called Ruidoso then south on the scenic route to Alamagordo where our campground reservations were. There was a more direct route but it was less scenic and the campground owner said they were doing all kinds of construction on it. I think we made the right choice. The drive was very enjoyable.

We checked into the Edgington Campground in Alamagordo and got the RV settled. We headed to White Sands National Monument and stopped in at the Visitor Center. They had a video about the park to watch then we walked around and read some of the information and looked at the displays for a while. We headed out after that and just took our time exploring different parts of the park. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

We made a stop at Denny's on the way home for dinner. Jonathan and I were covered in sand so we got showers while Tom cleaned the front windows on the RV. There should be some more opportunities for nice pictures on our drive to Apache Junction tomorrow.

Tom has to dial into work for a while tonight. I hope he doesn't have to stay up too late to get things finished.
