A Beautiful Drive!
We said our goodbyes to the Swindlings this morning then drove from the Kaibab Forest along the south rim headed northeast up into Utah. The drive was probably the most beautiful one we have done thus far. We saw more of the Grand Canyon. We stopped a few times as we headed out of the park to take another look. Just gorgeous.
Once we got a little further east, we drove onto the Navajo Reservation. The scenery was different but just beautiful. It was different than anything I had ever seen before. The pictures just don't do it justice. When you look at them, try to imagine yourself completely surrounded by what you see in the shot. I had the camera in my hand all day long.
We stopped at a Sonic around 2:00 for a bite to eat then continued northeast to Blandon enjoying the scenery all the way along the route. There were signs along the way with a picture of cows on them that said "OPEN RANGE". They all had two bright orange flags waving from the top of them. We hadn't gotten too much further down the road and a steer walked across the road right in front of us. Tom hit the brakes and we let him cross.
The campground we had reservations at was in Blanding Utah. We checked in when we arrived and got settled in our campsite. The campground is often used as a stopover for people as opposed to a long term stop but since we were going to be staying for a while the manager gave us the site with the community fire ring on it. The first thing Jonathan asked was "Can we have a campfire?" We hadn't been able to do that for a long time so we told him yes. The campground even provided the wood so Tom threw a little charcoal in the bottom of the ring to get things started then we sat around the fire and just relaxed for the evening.
