Continuing south we headed for Luling. Luling was established in 1874 and served as a gathering point and supply center for cattle drivers along the Chisholm Trail. Cotton ruled the economy until oil was discovered in 1922. Almost 200 colorfully-decorated pump jacks are within the city limits.
I stopped to take pictures of the colorful pumps that are everywhere. In church yards, bank parking lots, front yards, side yards and back yards of homes. I marveled at the tolerance of the residents who seem oblivious to their rhythmic pumping and accompanying squeaks.
