Flying J Truckstop, Sioux City, SD

Wall Drug, Badlands National Park, Flying J

We headed out on the road by 8:00 this morning. We knew we wanted to stop a few places along the way. The first stop was Wall Drug in Wall South Dakota. We had always heard about it. The last time we were out this way was about five years ago and it was just too late when we came through this area to add a stop into the drive. It's one of those things you have to do once.

We parked the rig and walked over to browse around. The store went all the way down one side of the downtown area. The first entrance was a combination souvenier and donut shop. After that, each section of the store lead to another. There was a soda fountain, restaurant, various specialty stores, a candy shop (I had to pick up a little bit of fudge.) and many others including an actual drug store. We had a fun time then it was back to the rig to hit the road again.

We drove for another 45 minutes or so and arrived at the Badlands National Park. We had driven past this many years ago too but only got a glimpse from the highway. This time we actually got to drive all the way down through the heart of the park. This is a National Park so Jonathan worked on the Jr. Ranger program while we were here. He still has a few things to complete then he can mail it in to earn his badge. It seemed to be a place many people passed through instead of spend a lot of time at. We stopped in the Visitor's Center for a little while, watched the video and looked around then hit the road again.

We had about 6 more hours to drive at this point and Tom had already scoped out a Flying J truck stop where we would pull off for the night. They are very RV friendly these days in that many of them have a separate section for RVs so you don't have to listen to the trucks running all night so that's nice. We arrived a little after 9:00 tonight so we'll hit the hay right away and get up early again tomorrow to hit the road.

Pictures will be coming eventually. Our new camera takes great shots but they are so detailed many of them don't upload to the site so I have to learn something new.
