Saturday, June 23, 2007, we drove around the southern boundary of Glacier National Park via highway 2. It was a very scenic drive that reminded me of the Colorado Mountains; well this is the northern Rocky Mountains. It was a hilly, curvy road that was following a beautiful river that contained many rafters in the rapids. We then emerged upon much flatter farmland that is the Blackfeet Indian Reservation. At Browning, Montana we took highway 89 into St. Mary, Montana. St. Mary is at the eastern entrance to Glacier National Park. We arrived at Johnson's RV Park, which was perched on a hill and had a magnificent view of two lakes up against snow capped mountains. The two lakes are the Upper and the Lower St. Mary Lakes. Sunday, we went back into Glacier National Park to see east of the Continental Divide. We stopped at the visitor center and watch a short video about the park and then proceeded up the Going-to-the-Sun road. We stopped at a couple overlooks of the upper St. Mary Lake. It is another large lake at 9.9 miles long and I would guess about half mile wide. We also stopped at Baring Falls, Sunrift Gorge, St. Mary's Falls and Jackson Glacier Overlook. All great views. The Going-to-the-Sun Road was again closed further on so that you could not get to Logan Pass. They hope to have the road open in about a month so that you can travel the complete 50 miles from the west entrance to the east entrance. We returned to the RV park and ate a late lunch at the on the grounds café. They had a family style chicken dinner as their Sunday special.

Monday we are heading into Canada. Wednesday starts our organized RV caravan of Banff National Park and the Calgary Stampede. This tour is organized by the Winnebago club that Carol and I belong. They have us going almost every minute of the next two weeks, so I am not sure when my next entry of the website will be posted.
