Weebles waiting for us at the Visitor's Center

Columbus, NM, just north of Mexican border

We just finished up our last day in Deming. Didn't get to the Gila Cliff Dwellings - I called up there this morning and it was 9 degrees and part of the trail was closed, with some snow/ice on the road up there. So we stayed around here where it started out at 17 degrees, but at least got up to 50 during the afternoon. Went down to Columbus along the Mexican border, to view the new visitor's center at the Pancho Villa State Park, and then to Rockhound State Park on the way back.

We'll leave in the morning for Benson, Arizona, where we'll stay for a few days. Plan to visit Tombstone, Bisbee (where one of my favorite authors J.J.Jance sets her books), to the biosphere north of Tucson and a few other places. Hopefully it'll be a little warmer there. Last time we went through this area it was a lot warmer, both during the day and at night, so it's kind of a shock - but it's still better than being back in the ice, snow and frigid weather in Iowa.
