Bayou Bound and traipsing through Texas Hill Country, 2008 travel blog

All that's left of a once busy fishing town

Roof blown into the wetlands

House split apart

Sign leading to safety

nothing left of Holly Beach

1 home being rebuilt, others living in motorhomes

Business buildings are all gone - none being rebuilt

Car in the marshes

Hurricane Rita relocated this building

Mangled metal

Remains of a wooden bridge

Another commercial building gone

We drove through what used to be the Holly Beach. Hurricane Rita didn't leave much intact. 3 years on and residents are still living in motor homes or trailers. A few are rebuilding homes on 20’ stilts. We saw devastation everywhere along with many other towns bearing scars. Business have been abandoned or are just not being rebuilt.
