Trapper Creek Inn & RV Park, Trapper Creek, Alaska

A Fun Day in Talkeetna

Jonathan and I started our trip out by stopping at the hardware store to get foam to put around the TV in the RV to keep it from making noise while we were going down the road. We stopped at the post office next but it was closed so we walked across the street to the museum/gift shop and walked around. It had a little museum in the basement and was very interesting. A lot of history down there. The post office was open when we came out so we picked up our mail.

We took the Yukon over to a parking lot across the way so as not to take up the parking in front of the museum then walked around downtown some more today. Without the Moose Festival going on it was easier to get a better feel for what life was usually like around here. I bought Jonathan some ice cream then decided to go ahead and get lunch at the Wildflower Cafe myself so we did things a little backwards. I got the halibut sandwich the lady at the visitor center was raving about the other day. Jonathan wanted a hot dog from the vendor across the street so that worked out fine. The sandwich was good. I even saved half for Tom so he could try it.

We walked around for a little while then went down to the Ranger Station to see the movie about climbing Denali that someone had told us about. We found out they have a Jr. Ranger program here in Talkeetna so we did that together. It took us to the museum where we saw a model someone made of Mt. McKinley and many pictures. There was climbing gear on display too. We had to find the answer to questions about mountain climbing and even had to do some exercises to get in shape like mountain climbers do. Jonathan and I had a lot of fun. When we arrived back at the Ranger Station the Ranger on duty shook Jonathan's hand and awarded him his badge. I got my badge as well. We headed out at this time. We knew we needed to stop and get some groceries so it was time to go. It was a fun day.
