Mount Rushmore in the Snow.

Jonathan and I had driven up to Jewel Cave yesterday in the snow and stopped by Mount Rushmore but it was too foggy to see it. Well, today the skies were blue so we thought we would try it again. The snow had all melted around the campground by the middle of the morning yesterday but given as much as there had been up on the mountains yesterday, surely there was some left up there to play in so off we went.

We got to Mount Rushmore around 11:30. The gate was open and working today. Their power had been out yesterday from what people were saying. We got our parking ticket then drove on in. The first level of parking was pretty full. We parked the Yukon then went upstairs. Blue skies everywhere! Jonathan stopped and played in the snow. I was beginning to think we would never make it in to see the monument but we hadn't seen snow in a long time so he was enjoying it.

They had plowed the walkway inside so that there were piles of snow along the walls. Jonathan took full advantage of that and climbed up on the mountains. I managed to get a couple of pictures of him. A lady whose picture we took of her and with her family earlier offered to take our picture together so that was nice.

We took pictures of the four presidents then sat on the benches and talked about what each president did during the course of history. I was really impressed with how much Jonathan remembered about each one so that was nice. A little schooling along the way today and what a nice classroom we had!

We walked around for a little while longer then decided to head on back. The plan was to get a few things done back at the RV then head out around 3:30 today. As we walked back we saw some people on the top level of the parking garage playing in the snow. Well, what a great place to play. Away from the people, so off we went. I buckled my fanny pack on so my hands were free and put my gloves on ready for some serious snowballs coming my way. Jonathan and I started whirling them back and forth. What fun! Snowballs in early October at Mount Rushmore. Hopefully, these will be lifetime memories.
