Albuquerque Balloon Fest
Balloon Fiesta Dawn Patrol
We all got up around 4:00 this morning because we wanted to go see the balloons take off this morning. It was an early alarm but well worth it. Tom had scoped out a spot he thought would be a good place to see everything from this morning and it worked out great. We arrived at the field around 5:45 via the bus. We wet the lawn chairs up in the dark and waited to see what would happen.
A few balloons took off before the sun even came up. It was hard to get pictures of those but it was fun to watch. The crowd started to get bigger as it got lighter. Tom and I walked over to the concessions area and got hot chocolate for me and coffee for mom. It was a cool morning but not as cold as we were expecting thankfully. We sipped on our warm drinks as we watched trucks pulling trailers with the balloons and baskets in them pull out onto the field. Before too long, the balloons were being blown up and we had a whole field of them right in front of us. They started taking off one by one. The sky was just full of balloons!
We thought the show was pretty well finished then turned around and saw many more coming from behind us right over our heads. These balloonists were participating in Key Grab contest. There were more of them flying over our heads than had just launched in front of us. It was incredible! A woman passed us earlier and asked if we wanted tickets for a free breakfast being given by her company so we finished our morning off with that then went home to relax for the day.
They had another fireworks show this evening at 7:30. Tom and Jonathan took lawn chairs up on the roof of the RV and watched from up there while Mom and I watched with our neighbors for a little while. It turned out to be a great day.
