|Right off the plane we felt that now our holiday had begun. The Jamaicans are a little too laid back though. It took 2 hours to get from the airport to the hotel when it should have taken 1 hour and 10 minutes. We planned to organise private transfers back to the airport with Elvis Bike Rentals back.(Sherwin - 1876 425 4588).
I really found the "Hussle" as the Jamiacans call it, a painful experience. After we negotiated price for jet-ski's, the cheeky buggers tried to short change us and after a stern word he asked for a tip.
On the first night at Sandy Haven Resort we were invited to attend the hotels one year grand opening party. The complementary food, drink and entertainment came at a price we had to endure the speaches of local tourism ministers patting each other on the back.
Our days in Jamiaca seemed to be packed full of activities. In one day we managed to walk the whole way down 7 mile beach, jet skiing, drinks at Ricks Cafe (watching the cliff jumpers) and dinner on the beach at the sunset restaurant at the restaurant next door.
We lived on a steady diet of jamaican food (Jerk Chicken, Jerk Pork and Curried Goat). I found it suprising how Louise loved the jerk chicken even though it was extremely peppery she wouldnt put it down, she loved the smoky BBQ Jerk Chicken. It must have reminded her our first date when i took her to MR Jerks in London.
We spent most of our time in Negril, Jamaica on the seven mile beach sunning ourselves and avoiding the hussle.
I wouldnt scuba dive in Jamaica again, there wasnt much to see. Saying that it was our first solo dive - just the 2 of us around the house reef at Marine Life Divers, great place....the german owner Arimin was so reassuring. It was the only reason we decided on the self guided solo dive. We saw 6 Lion fish, over hanging reef and pinacle corals.
We visited Paradise island and snorkled, the same island was shared with nudists. luckily for us they were on the other side of the island.
We met a lovely German couple Alex and Stefi who we had dinner with at the hotel. We seemed to lose track of time as we talked for hours. Definately stay in contact with them.
Jamaica, we had a great time in the evenings watching the sun set with jerk chicken and a lovely bottle of wine. It reminded us of Thailand and Malaysia.
