As many of you know we started volunteering at Aztec Ruins National Monument in Aztec, NM on August 15, 2013. We were to be there until Oct 15th and then move on to Santa Ana Natl Wildlife Refuge in Alamo, TX to start our training, there, on Oct 21st. Dale will be a tram driver and I'll be is tour guide. However, due to the Government Shutdown both parks are now closed effective October 1st. Aztec Ruins gave us 48 hours to vacate the premises. Santa Ana NWR kept there volunteer campground open and offered a "home" to us until they are up and running again, then we would be there to start work when they need us. Soooo, here we are now in Alamo. It's very warm, aka: HOT, here. It doesn't seem to get below 81 at this point. Our AC seems to run 24/7. This area makes me think of our California "home" in the San Joaquin valley. Lots of agriculture. They have grapefruit orchards here and lots of row crops. We are about 10 miles from several different towns so it looks like we'll have plenty of things to do to keep us busy during this "shutdown" time. South Padre Island is about 40 miles away.
Today we have stayed in....watching movies and football....Go Chiefs!!!
