After 2 weeks of training we officially started our Tram Tours with Dale driving and me narrating right after November 1st. It's not been real busy so I've been able to get lots of practice without a big crowd. We did have a group of 13 Boy Scouts plus their chaperones...that was fun. They wanted to see a bobcat really bad. It didn't happen, however, when we road past the back fence of an Exotic Animal Breeder that's right next to the Refuge there was a bunch of little deer hugging the fence. They were thrilled. We actually got lots of practice right off the bat. The other couple of Tram Drivers had to make an emergency trip back home due to a family illness. They're from Wisconsin. We drove the tram every day for almost 2 weeks, then they were able to find a couple to help us out until the other drivers came back around Dec 1st. Since then we've been back on schedule. 3 days on and 4 days off. We went to the Festival of the Dead on Nov 2nd in Edinburg. That was amazing....lots of food, crafts and activities going on. The Face Painting was elaborate and The tamales were wonderful. We took a trip to Laguna Astascosa NWR, Port Isabel and South Padre Island. We really enjoyed our lunch on "the island" right next to the harbor. Afterwards to went to the World Birding Center and had a nice walk along the Laguna Madre. I'm sure we'll go again before we leave in about 6 weeks. I want to take the boat ride to Watch the Dolphins. I'm sure the time will fly by. Tomorrow we are planning a trip to Palmerito Ranch Historical National Park near Brownsville. It was the site of the last battle of the Civil War.
