We spent Wednesday and Thursday exploring the area of Rincon de la Vieja. We enjoyed hiking and all the wonders of geothermic activity. Unfortunately, we could not hike to the crater because it is active right now. We prefer being safe, so we opted for the bubbling mud volcanoes, boiling thermal waters, vapor geysers, and fumaroles. The waterfall was beautiful!

We drove north to the Santa Rosa National Park where La Casona is. This is the site where national hero Juan Santamaria defeated American Adventurer ( wannabe dictator), William Walker in 1856. It cost Juan Santamaria his life.

Each afternoon we enjoyed a natural sauna (built over a fumarole), mud bath, and natural hot springs. Very therapeutic! We also enjoyed swimming in the hotel pool.

We enjoyed meeting families from Santa Cruz, Switzerland, Belgium, and Costa Rica.
