A taste of Costa Rica travel blog

A pleasant 22 deg in San Jose and a morning to while away before our flight home, early this evening. A bit of rain has come in from the mountains which reminds me that Stuart slept through the incredible storm 2 nights ago!!!

Time to stretch our legs before the flight. We can see the Gran d’Oro Hotel & Restaurant from our room. Happy memories of a superb meal, so we wander there for a coffee. It is decked out for Christmas with massive trees, baubles and lots of Poinsettias! Even has Silent Night, Winter Wonderland and many more tunes playing in the background! Lovely but bizarre too! Perfect service as before, even just for a coffee.

Our pick up is a great surprise. Not only 20 mins early but our driver is George from last night’s long trek. Fun at the airport as, for a while, we are told we have to pay an exit tax, not so. Phew! Fast track seems to be slower than standard track and security, albeit professional, and not particularly helpful, which is not the norm in CR.

Very relaxed in the VIP lounge with a G&T to watch our plane arrive. Sadly it is a bit late but then we are off back to a very cold UK. It has been a real adventure of a trip!

Some CR observations:

Traffic .... No comment!!!

Coffee - Perfect. Every hotel room had a coffee machine & ground coffee. Only one room with a kettle though so not easy to make tea!

People - Ticos so welcoming, genuine, fun and helpful.

Wildlife - not enough superlatives! Exotic and beautiful.

Fellow travellers - fascinating, fun and very friendly.

Costa Rica’s unexpected gift to us - a streaming cold each!

Pura Vida - Costa Rican for anything: hallo, goodbye, good luck, all the best .... you get the picture!
