Mar 18, 2015 - One Perfect Day in and near Little Farmer's Cay

Yesterday was the quintessential day in the Bahamas. We awoke to blue skies and a nice (8-10 knots) southeasterly breeze. J&B and Southerly upped anchor around 0945 and headed out of Black Point bound for Little Farmer’s Cay. We put sails out and had a leisurely sail all the way to Oven Rock just N of Little Farmer’s but on Great Guana Cay. We anchored just off the beach and coral shore line. After lunch, we dinghied to the beach and anchored the dinghies out a little. From there we walked to the north end of the beach and headed inland. We...

Mar 16, 2015 - Anchored off Black Point Settlement, Great Guana Cay

Southern Yankee departed for Emerald Bay on the north end of Great Exuma so they can catch a flight back to the US for a few days of business. J&B and Southerly left Big Majors and headed to Black Point Settlement on Great Guana Cay, only about 4-5 miles south. J&B chose to sail to nowhere, just to be sailing and enjoying it, before they headed to the anchorage hours later. We chose to motor, on a straight course into the wind, to get into the anchorage. A little background on Black Point: it is a Christian settlement (arriving on a Sunday...

Jan 29, 2013 - New location, Black Point Settlement, Great Guana Cay

My last posting updated our travels through the afternoon of January 23rd. After hiking in the afternoon, we had a quiet dinner and evening. Thursday, January 24th, was a beautiful day with blue skies but lots of northeasterly wind. We had a quiet morning until Fred took me (and the computer) ashore. I worked for four hours to get the last posting and emails and banking done. The wifi signal was too weak and intermittent on the boat, so I sat up near the office for the Park to get a good signal. After lunch on the boat, we took the dinghy...

Mar 2, 2006 - Calhouns Cruisin' the Central Bahamas

After a weekend of checking things out on New Providence (Nassau) we headed out to the east to find an anchorage before the Calhoun clan's arrival. Monday 20 February found us at anchor in the lee of Booby Island where we could swim and relax in the seclusion of a little known spot not that far from Nassau and it's big tourist activity. Tuesday we shifted to an even more secluded cay...Samprise, by name, and unknown to the Nassau tour boats. Just after noon on Wednesday we maneuvered our little trawler into the disney-like world of...
