Mar 26, 2017 - Crossing the Yellow Banks

Underway to The Exumas Sunday, March 26th Weather: Still very windy and mostly sunny Route: Palm Cay Marina (New Providence) to Highborne Cay Highlights: - a safe passage out of the Marina's channel and through the shallow Yellow Banks - having a quiet, calm anchorage at Highborne Cay - successfully cooking dinner despite the galley's very small oven The Captain was happy to wake up to mostly sunny skies for today's passage through the Yellow Banks -- the visibility would make it easier to distinguish coral heads from cloud shadows on the...

Mar 26, 2017 - The Exumas

The Exumas The Exumas are an archipelago of 365 cays and islands. They sit on a carbonate shelf 35 miles southeast of Nassau. To the east of the Exumas are the deep waters of Exuma Sound, where deep sea fishing is excellent. To the west of the Exumas are the shallow waters generally referred to as "The Banks". Because of the location of the Exumas between the deeper and shallower water, we found that the tidal currents around individual cays were often stronger and more unpredictable than we had expected. Apr 20, 2013 - Rough ride over to Highborne Cay

Today was a travel day across the Tongue of the Ocean and then through the White Banks. We thought we only had 20 miles of 5 to 8 foot seas before hitting the 20 foot deep White Banks. Surprise! Makes you wonder how its possible there can be 5 foot seas in 20 feet of water. Seven hours of it made a long day, but we made it to the land of the Rich and Famous. We were told Tiger, Shaq, etc...frequent here. Currently, just a lot of very rich folks.! I think we are the only ones here that actually Captian our own boat. Tomorrow we are...

Mar 2, 2008 - Beautiful Warderick Wells

Sunday, March 2, 2008 We left Highborne Cay today around 10 am and arrived at Warderick Wells about 2:30 pm. We have a very interesting sail with the winds over 25 mph most of the day. Luckily we were headed with the wind instead of against it! Warderick Wells is incredible. The water is so beautiful and all the small islands that surround it make it very scenic. WW is the headquarters for the Exumas Land and Sea Park. There are many beaches and hiking trails. We are planning to be here for the cold front that should come in tonight and...
