Mar 31, 2015 - How we ended up in the Abacos

The last posting closed saying that we had two plans for finishing up our trip. Guess what…once again the plans changed! We didn’t do either plan, but rather combined parts of each. We got an early start going out of Nassau Harbor (by 0630) and that was a good thing because exiting the harbor took a while. We passed the only ship tied up tied up to the cruise ship docks. It was a Disney ship. As we neared the first mark of the channel that exits the harbor, we could see a police boat with its blue light flashing so slowed and stopped off to...

Apr 24, 2013 - Little Harbor to Marsh Harbor

On 4/16, we arrived in Marsh Harbor a little after lunch, having gone 24 miles. We spend 9 nights here. The weather is still fantastic, even though breezy which does not affect our boating much, but does impact snorkeling and dink rides into the Sea of Abaco. We stay at a little marina that is offering some great deals – called Mangos. In fact, given that we spend about $15/day on dink and generator fuel, coupled with the inconvenience, the extra cost of the marina is well worth it. We are spending only about $30/day including services. The...

Jan 19, 2009 - DA BOAT/DA PLAN

We thought those of you who have not seen the boat would like to view her inside and out,so enjoy the photos. For those of you who are following our destinations using google earth or some other satelLite program we thought we add some more way pointS for you. We have not left Marsh Harbour as the forcast is for a frontal system with near gale force winds. Thats 28 knots to gale at 30-35 knots. Although we have a water-maker @3 gallons/hour, we need to top up our two 100 gallon water tanks. The Jib Room Marina wanted .50 cents per gallon,...

Jan 16, 2009 - Marsh Harbour,Abacos

We arrived in Marsh Harbour for supplies and some sight seeing. The first day we took the fold up bikes out of the v-berth/garage and off to town we went. Deb always say I know how to show a girl a good time, off to the hardware store, then the marine store, then the gas station to put a little air in our tires. Oh ya we stopped at the grocery store and harbour side restaurant to use their internet while we had lunch. Ha ha they wanted $10 for a half hour, so needless to say I had a beer and Deb had rum punch then left. We went for a great...

Okay...we moved from Double-Breasted Cay to Marsh Harbor...It is a cute little community, but to our surprise they had a holiday...they were celebrating Columbus Day...luckily the only restaurant/bar was a short walking distance from the dock...they had a live band playing and they were really good...I believe they were called THE ISLANDERS...another beautiful sunset in the Bahamas...

Jan 7, 2007 - Cruising the Sea of Abaco

Taking advantage of an almost dead calm day we set out from Green Turtle Cay for Marsh Harbour, 28 miles away. Cruising the Abacos is great because there are countless destinations all within a few hours' cruising time from each other. We were surprised by how much less crowded the anchorage was compared to when we were here last year in March. Marsh Harbour is the popular place to seek refuge from any windy weather, especially the nasty northers that blow through in the winter. It offers modern and convenient shopping, laundry, banks,...

Jan 4, 2007 - Marching to Marsh Harbor

26 32.8 77 03.5 Marsh Harbor, Abacos, Bahamas Only two weeks ago Marsh Harbor seemed so far away far us as we sat in Jupiter or Lake Worth, Florida. Certainly our anxiety was doubled by the fact that we were expecting to hook up with Margaret and Alison in Marsh Harbor on 12/23. That we were able to finesse changes in tickets and destinations so as to pick them up in West Palm and have them with us the entire trip was an absolute bonus. It has been a fabulous run for all of us as we have explored the Great Abaco Sea and a number of its...
