Aug 7, 2007 - Monetego Bay, Jamaica

We stayed at the Sandals Resort along with my parents and brother and sister and law. It was a family vacation. We had gone snorkeling with beautiful tropical fish and gone on a sailboat ride. Road on the lazy river and had to many red strip beer all day. We took a tour to the Falls and also went to another Sandals resort to eat at a Thai restaurant. The sunset there is incredible and beautiful. The people of Jamaica are so nice and there food is to die for.

Dec 2, 2006 - JAMAICA: Montego Bay

Arrived at Montego Bay late in the afternoon, just in time for another huge meal and beers! The Jamaican food is seriously good.... We checked into a lovely hotel overlooking the sea ...followed by a night on the town on the hip strip of Mo Bay....again i was shocked at the Jamaican girls "dutty winding" and their amazing ability of controlling and moving each buttock separately very very fast!! We stayed 2 nights here, with a trip down into the country on the second day. We went to visit one of Herbie's clients and food factory right up in...

Nov 28, 2006 - Markets of Montego Bay

We hit the streets of Montego Bay today. We roamed around through its markets. A few bought souvenirs - t shirts, trinkets, paintings, carvings. Tasted some local drinks. We explored roadside stalls and could find lots of similarities to India. After a few hours of pointless wandering through the streets we returned to our hotel, and prepared to leave. A memorable experience in an amazing country.

Nov 25, 2006 - Doctors Cove Beach

My first encounter with the blue waters of the Caribbean. I had never expected the water to be so blue and it seemed straight out of a fantasy movie. We had a fun time at the beach. OG put swimming fundaes to junta most of the time, but almost ended up drowning (Harsha, the lifeguard, a tourist, and me - the four of us rushed to pull him out). Sanketh was offered Marijuana by some locals. He mulled over the idea for a long long time and finally declined.

Nov 23, 2006 - Arrive in Jamaica

We arrived in different groups in Montego Bay a.k.a MoBay (Sangster International Airport). By afternoon all of us (Dhunna, Yak, Jayanthi, Harsha, OG, Sanketh, Eric, Sandy, and me) were set to start our Jamaican adventure. By that time Dhunna and I had already taken a 'quick snack' nearby. The taxi driver drove through the muddy roads threading the needle in the traffic. We reached our hotel 'El Greco' wading through a huge pool of water outside the hotel. They welcomed us with Rum Punch (seemed like Jamaica's national drink). Later in the...

Jan 25, 2005 - Hustled and Higgled in Montego Bay

A reader writes: I was generally disappointed by Montego Bay due to the hustling that I was subjected to as a female traveling on her own. You really have to be direct and to-the-point to get rid of them. My general retort to 'Princess, you need me to show you around' is 'No mon, mi criss' ('No thanks, I'm doing fine'). The rule is: don't make eye contact and keep walking! Another reader complains that Montego Bay's 'Hip Strip' should be renamed 'The Harassment Strip.' I must say, a name change does seem warranted. Gloucester Ave certainly...
