Hello family and friends, Alas, we have found another Internet connection. So, I guess it is time for an update on our travels. Let me see, where did we leave off? Mai Chua? I think so. Travelin' Light

Nov 28, 2008 - Muang Ngoi Neua

One hour by boat up the Nam Ou river is the village of Muang Ngoi Neua, quiet but now definitely 'discovered' and on the tourist map. Its main feature is that it can only be reached by boat as its surrounded on 3 sides by limestone hills and there are no connecting roads. I booked myself into a bargain bamboo hut which sat right on the river front and behind a monastery, and just spending a week in the hammock having a good read was way too tempting, so mindful of my visa time-constraints I decided to make it only one night here. Where's Malcolm?

Nov 8, 2004 - Mengla, China

Left Kunming tonite on overnite bus to Mengla on the border...in cramped quarters, the past week has been quite a variety of bus trips...starting in Chengdu with a very posh AC equiped, with W.C. ad video - Jackie Chan which in the middle of movie and 3 hours out about 3/4 way up a pas it broke down. From then on the buses went "dwnhill" no amienities and almost no room to move as we headed W...but we learned to get to the "stations" early and puch our way on board to get seats in the middle where the bumpy roads did not jolt our bodies too...
