May 21, 2018 - Boat trip to Gozo and the Blue Lagoon

After seeing the brilliant turquoise waters of the Blue Lagoon from the air, I knew I had to snorkel those seas for myself. Unfortunately, windy weather and the resulting anticipated crowds on the boats initially botched our plans. We instead got up early to catch a bus to the ferry over to Gozo, and then somehow hoped to sort out a boat to the Blue Lagoon from there. The morning was beautifully clear, the waters calm, and we decided to try our luck at getting on one of those boats from the Sliema harbor. Score! There was room for us and we...

Oct 5, 2017 - Gozo, Malta

Gozo. Before I talk about Gozo, I first need to offer an apology for my grievous error in my previous post for all those in the know. It is St. Peter's Basilica in The Vatican, not St. Patrick's. St. Patricks is only a Cathedral in Dublin and maybe in New York as well. How I could make such an error is beyond me. For those who I have offended, I apologize. The error in the previous post has been corrected, so there is no evidence I made this grievous error now. So there! Gozo is one of the islands in the archipelago of Malta and only a hop,...

Adriatic Cruise

May 16, 2015 - Gozo Bozos

Another early start after another shit night. The aircon worked until about 12 midnight after which the room became a sweat box. I opened the sliding door for a while but I had to close it again as it was too light and too noisy. So into the shower and into my clothes and already with sweat running down my face. Geez.. I thought this bit could have waited till KL. the boys of course slept solid for 10 hours. I'm sure they just say shit to be perverse. Onto brekky and one bite of the ham was enough to be alarmed. There was something really...

The Italian Job

Jul 29, 2012 - Malta - Goodbye

11th – 22nd July 2012 Our holiday in Malta is quickly coming to an end and even though we have been to Malta a few times before it seems to get harder each time to say our goodbyes. On our last day we decided to go to Qawra Palace for drinks & nibbles. We had to have an early night as we had to be up at 2.30am to get ready to catch the ferry to Pozzallo. I had organised platters of food and a surprise engagement cake for Erin & Mark. It was a lovely but emotional night, as we knew that it would be quite a few years before we saw each...

Jul 16, 2012 - Gozo

Gozo: 9th & 10th July 2012 (Bed 52) We decided to spend one night in Gozo with Gavin, Louise, Marty & Ray. We booked a lovely hotel, Xlendi Hotel & Spa. From the rooftop of the hotel, we had a picturesque view of the ocean and the town of Xlendi. Gozo is half the size of Malta, with one tenth of the population. It is different to Malta, even though it shares the same language, it uses a distinct dialect. In my opinion, it is a unique and untouched island with rugged landscape and a spectacular coastline. It has baroque churches and old...

Jul 3, 2008 - Gozo Island, Malta

After two nights in Valletta we sailed over to the small island of Comino to a beautiful spot with quite a few sea caves. Beautiful warm, clear water and we swam and explored the caves before moving to spend the night in a small protected cove on Gozo Island. The pictures tell the story! As we sat at anchor the super yacht Club Med 2 that we saw in Valletta sailed past in the distance looking like a ghost ship.

Jun 8, 2008 - Malta

We sailed into Valletta, Malta in the afternoon. We were all very keen to wash ourselves and our clothes! A week at sea! For the first few hours I did not stop rocking. The sailing had been mixed with quite a lot of wind, but from the wrong direction. The nights have been cold so I had all the new waterproofs on I had bought in the States. It is now Monday and we have gone to the Libyan Embassy and had our passport pages translated, done to big grocery shop and the laundry. We will set sail late this afternoon. Hopefully we will get in this...
