Mar 15, 2010 - Big Bend State Park and the River Road

Today I will follow Horace’s advice and go west, to explore the Big Bend State Park, drive the ‘River Road’ and visit to Presidio/Ojinaga. BBSP is the largest state park in TX, but very few paved roads into the park, although F.M. 170 (Farm to Market to the uneducated), the River Road, borders the southern part of the Park. Over 60 miles of trails from the highway provides plenty of opportunities for hiking, but showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast today. Spring Break 2010

Mar 17, 2007 - Carlsbad to Big Bend

On the way to Big Bend NP we passed some spectacular countryside and stopped off in a very interesting small town called Marfa. It is the county seat and has an enormous court house built in 1850 which looks a bit like a French chateau.(we wandered in and climbed all the way up to the top of the dome and didn't see a single person) also in the town was a small cafe which had the best hot chocolate I have ever tasted.
