Feb 3, 2017 - Manzanillo, Mexico & Cooking Class

Friday Feb 3, 2017 Manzanillo, Mexico & Cooking Class After our day at sea, we were ready to do some more exploring. This time, it was not so much what to see, but what to cook! Our group of twelve paired off in six stations at a hacienda style restaurant. Each spot had a cutting board, a plate of ingredients, a knife, and a mortar & pestle which was shaped like a pig and made from volcanic rock. Tom did the chopping & blending and Anne photographed & tasted, adding salt as needed. First we made a salsa from onion, roasted tomato (skin...

Jul 3, 2012 - Time to Go to Canada

Hola, I bet you thought that we had fallen off of the face of the earth..not so. This cruising season was far from being exciting. After having a haul out on the first of March we still had to hang here, we had a recall on a piece on our mast. We choose to wait in Mazatlan until the part was shipped from the States and installed. The company strongly suggested not to go sailing as the mast would have fallen down if the part failed. So we waited and waited!!!!!!!One of our batteries failed so we waited some more for a new one to come from...

Mar 15, 2012 - Manzanillo, Mexico

We pulled in at 7 today and our group met in the Piazza at 9:30. This is a pretty small place and we are not taking an official tour today. We plan to just walk off and see what is here. This is a substitute port for Acapulco which was removed from the itinerary because of the crime and kidnappings there. We wandered around the port area and there wasn’t much to see there. There was a small square with some shops and several craftspeople on the dock seling handmade things. It’s a beautiful sunny day in the 80’s. Manzanillo is Mexico’s...

I also went to a chicken breakfast last week where we paid 150.pesos to eat all the funds went to supply hampers to the poor family in the out lying...

Mar 11, 2011 - We have wheels!

Yes its true. After walking around for the last 2 weeks we now have a set of bikes to ride. Our old buddies from Maude Bay have a place down here and have a couple extra bikes and offered them to us! Nice, it feels like we have a car. We just glide around all over the town. The festival is in full swing now so every night at 3.30 and 4.30 large explosions happen in the sky. The sound is very loud and the vibration sets off many car alarms. LOL This is Mexican fun I guess. Rox wakes up and is no so impressed but I wear my ear plugs and just...

After shopping we got some food at one of the local shops and headed up high in a bar to get some more half price margs and watch the sun go down over the ocean. It was great. Ops forgot to mention we walked to the bay next door and bumped into some friends of Rox´s from Nanaimo. So, had a...

Yesterday we got up early and did the tour bus to a small fishing town (La Parilla) not sure how to spell. It took 1.5 hours heading North up the coast. We got there had breakfast then were speed off to a small island surrounded in white powder sand and lots of bird. My favorite bird of the day was the Brown Boobie. Wow it did not even look real with green plastic looking feet. The birds are afraid of us so we come right up to then and say hi, take some pics and move on. Quite a climb up to the cliffs to see the birds through cactus and...
