Jan 25, 2018 - Guadalajara

@@@@@@@ Here’s some of what the Lonely Planet – Mexico chapter Western Central Highlands has to say about Guadalajara: BACKGROUND A pueblo (town) of well over a million peo¬ple, charmingly unself¬conscious Guadalajara has somehow, and rather without trying, become Mexico’s second city. While often neglected by travelers, the city’s charms are distributed equally and liber¬ally throughout its distinct neighborhoods. The city’s Centro Histórico (Historic Cent¬er) is dotted with proud colonial relics that house museums, government offices,...

May 13, 2014 - Practice what we learn!

Today was a day of interesting exposure to practice and cultural differences. My room mate and I chose to work on the Mother-Baby Unit that also houses the Gynecological Surgery patients. Our exposure revealed interesting practices. First the lack of sterile technique and universal precautions was very hard to handle. Also, not having a sink in patient's rooms was a major difference from hospitals in the US. The lack of gloves to care for patients. Babies left in basinettes while moms took showers. The re-admission rates due to post partum...

Study Abroad at 57!

May 11, 2014 - Primero dia en Guadalajara

Our first day in Guadalajara and our "house Mom" made a super great breakfast, mango, huevos, tortilla that are so wonderfully fresh. It was a great breakfast, My room-mate loves spicy and they brought out the chili sauce for her. It is very picante. After breakfast we met our professors and classmates at the language school to take a tour of the city. The city is very sprawled out and the old churches and the center of town are very interesting, but because it attracts many tourists there are many people trying to sell hats, shawls and...

Tour de Mexico

Dec 6, 2011 - Guadalajara,Mexico

Jalisco, junio 2011

Aug 23, 2011 - Guadalajara

I am off home today. I take the bus from Guadalajara to Dallas at 5:30pm and get there tomorrow about 6:30 pm. Then I wait and take the bus at 6:30 am to Tulsa, getting in at approximately 1:00 pm. I really like Mexico, but I haven't been feeling all that well so I have been spending most of my time in the hotel room. Plus, my mom enticed me home with the prospect of moving. I love moving. It is like traveling only more permanent. I am looking forward to moving boxes around and deciding where to put things. Anyway, I really like...

Jan 1, 2011 - Feliz Navidad & Nuevo Anos

December 24th It is December 24th and I float on my back in a swimming pool over bright yellow tiles that say 'CASA SENORINA BON VIVANT'. I have checked into room #5 for two days. December 22nd I arrived in Barra de Navidad after the bus failed to drop me off in Melaque. The bus driver said 'few minutes back, take taxi', gosh thanks amigo. Instead I stay in Barra and take a cab to the 'Jalisco Hotel' and check into room #12. The accommodation is not only basic but what I would call 'sticky'. I daresay the Downtown Vancouver East Side has...

Dec 11, 2010 - Puerto Vallarta

It's been so long since I wrote in thins journal...got a bit lazy but in reality until I left GDL was doing nothing but studying. that all stopped once I got to Puerto Vallarta! I LOVE PUERTO VALLARTA!!! ME ENCANTA!!!!!! Though this is a tourist city and thus intended to avoid it's not that far detached from GDL I'm happy to report. The mexican culture is still very much alive here and you can still walk cobble streets and marvel at the obras de arte and beautuful colonial architecture. My first day: opened the door to my hostel room...
