The Stray bus arrives on time but circles the city centre for half an hour picking everyone up from their various hostels. A quick trip up Mount Eden, one of the volcanic cones around Auckland before we hit the road proper. NZ has a population of only 4 million, and 1 million live here, although the multistorey buildings are confined to the small CBD so the city is pretty spread out. Jan 5, 2005 - the most relaxing day ever

Yesterday was a day that proved we are on vacation. We woke up late, about 10:30, and decided that we needed to go to the grocery store. The plan was to go out in Mike's dad's boat and fish for a while and see if we could find a nice little beach for lunch. So, we bought food for the day and headed out to the boat launch. Once in the boat we drove straight across the bay from Whitianga to this huge island that is owned by Michael Faye, the kiwi guy who helped pay for the America's cup team.
