Dec 13, 2006 - A (killer) whale of a time!
Hi All A slightly more sain update from NZ today! :o) This morning we woke up eager to get out on our long awaited 'Swim with the Dolphins' trip. I switched on breakfast television to find a program all about sharks and rapidly started to feel less excited about swimming in the open ocean and ever so slightly nervous... I don't know about you but watching 'Jaws' as a child ruined any experiences I've had of swimming in the sea and as you'd expect Jamie took great pleasure in teasing me about being gobbled up by great whites the whole bus...Jump to full entry
Mar 7, 2006 - Kaikoura
This place is a must do on every tourist's agenda when coming to New Zealand-to see dolphins, whales, seals and various sea birds. It is an amazing place because of the proximity to all of these. We booked up for the 'dolphin swim' which has to be one of our top experiences to date. An early morning start-we opted for the 5.45am swim (madness!) as the sea is apparently less rough at this time. After donning our wetsuits and heading out in the pitch dark, just as the sun came in view we spotted our first pod of dolphins-not just a couple as...Jump to full entry
Dec 16, 2005 - Kaikoura
The paramount reason for our trip to Kaikoura was to enable me to do a trip to swim with the dolphins. Lauren had absolutely raved about this experience during our time travelling together so I felt compelled to give it a go. I'm sure that you can imagine my disappointment when I was told there was a ten day waiting list! As we were pushed for time there was absolutely no way we could hang around for that long. Our stay in Kaikoura was short and sweet and I spent the majority of my time there reading my book on the beach and rearranging...Jump to full entry
Sep 25, 2005 - It's My Party And...
(Version en castellano abajo) Kia ora!!! It was such an unforgettable day that we were sad to put an end to it. So sad that we decided not to do it. It's my party and I make it last if I want to! I want to take the opportunity to thank you all for your amazing messages congratulating us on this very special day. We will eventually reply to each one of you individually (that's a promise), but it might not be until Christmas because you're just too many. Meanwhile, thank you SO much to: Of course, to our families that sent us the most...Jump to full entry
Aug 21, 2005 - Seal of Approval!
Hi Everyone, We heard about the storms in T.O...hope you are all dry and safe. We are doing well and loving this place. The scenery is so beautiful. It makes the long drives seem not so long at all. Since we last checked in, we drove down to Wellington from Rotorua. On the way we detoured to a place called Waitomo Caves. The caves themselves were "OK", last time we checked lights and paved walkways were not naturally occurring :) Anyways, the cool part was the glow-worms. They are like that little toy stuffed creature some of you may have...Jump to full entry
Nov 26, 2004 - Kaikora
We finally managed to tear ourselves away from the luxury of Bruce and Margs and decided to check out the town of Kaikora, famous for whale watching and dolphin swimming. As it turned out we didn't get a chance to do either, as after dinner we came back to find our tent blown flat by a bloody great storm. Decided to spend the night in the car, which was nice! No chance of seeing any whales the next day, so decided to push onto our next destination of Christchurch. We can always try to see the whales next time as we'll be passing through...Jump to full entry
