Today there was an optional "swim with the dolphins". I didn't do it because it was expensive, and I see lots of dolphins when I'm outrigger paddling in San Diego. Apparently, it was worth it. There are hundreds of dolphins here because there is an ocean trench which has lots of food for the dolphins, and they gather here. The boats take you to the dolphins and you can jump in the water with them. The bus went back to Kaikoura from the campsite to pick up the swim with the dolphin people. Mar 26, 2011 - Rangitata

Arrived Departed Rangitata is not usually a compulsory stop on the Stray bus but as we are unable to stay in Christchurch, this stop has been made compulsory! Not much to do if you're not rafting here. The hostel we were meant to be staying in was in the middle of nowhere. The only thing remotely close was the river and that was 5km away! Luckily they ran out of space when we came to check in so we were moved to a little cottage, 5km away, right next to the river! It was lush! There were only 8 of us that went, all girls.
