Sa pourrais ressembler à...Jump to full entry

Mar 27, 2019 - Auckland
Not the most enjoyable sleep last night, both of us had the incident at the restaurant playing on our minds. And it was quite muggy too… Sonja Vennik came to see us, and we went to Onehunga Mall for a quick shop at Kathmandu for padlocks (Cynthea changed back packs and left locks on the old pack!). We had a quick lunch and went to Ambury regional park nearby, where her 2 y.o. grandson , Paxton, could run around after chooks, turkeys, sheep. Great to catch up, Tony and Sonja have known each other since they were babies, a loong, looong time...Jump to full entry
Mar 26, 2019 - leaving on a jetplane...
It has been an emotional few days, we are leaving after two years here in New Plymouth, and we don't know when we will be back (but the car is in Taranaki, so we will have to come back for that, and to visit Hayden and Honey-Rose too ;-) ) Packing up the unit takes forever. We have had days of very late nights and early mornings, and we are fair shattered. Five hours sleep last night, urk. We are finally ready for the flight to Auckland and the shuttle rings to say they are running late, and would we mind waiting at the end of the street,...Jump to full entry
Mar 3, 2019 - Golf
Golf is all finished. Two very hot days at The Hills. First day some of us didn't get a job, even though there was plenty we could do (organisers not as organised as they could have been). Wandered around the course, tracking down some of the sculptures. Yesterday we were all busy, ball spotting or doing crowd control. Drinks at the volunteers' marquee at the end, with the winner dropping in with his cup. Home for takeaways, which is quite an undertaking at 8.00pm in Arrowtown. Enjoyed our days and met some lovely people. Sorry, tried...Jump to full entry
Feb 28, 2019 - Arrowtown
Well, we are parked on the lawn of sister Lynda's rental property in Arrowtown - 2 motorhomes and a caravan, with Carol and David at Lynda's crib up the road. No tenants in the house, so it is great to have the space. Have all had dinner together the last couple of nights - the four sisters, all spouses except Roland (gone to Auckland), and Dianne and Andy. Lynda is working at the NZ Golf Open at The Hills and Millbrook. They needed more volunteers, so we are now 'spotters' at Millbrook. We go for half a day and stay on one hole, looking...Jump to full entry
Feb 24, 2019 - Now near Cromwell
Haast Pass was lovely as it always is. Lots of stops at various walks and waterfalls. Stopped at Blue Pools carpark - said it was 10 min walk to the walkway. Was at least 20 mins and then another 20 mins walk to pools. Roland and I volunteered to walk back to carpark to get motorhomes. He walked along the road, I did the track. He was nowhere in sight when I got back to the motorhome and was very cocky when I met them all at the carpark by the track. He later admitted he asked a guy in a ute if he could drop him off at his motorhome!! What...Jump to full entry
Feb 21, 2019 - Hokitika
Rejoined the others at Lake Brunner for a couple of nights, staying on the lawn at a very nice lodge ($350 a night). Down a gravel road for 5 kms, so fairly isolated. Walked to another waterfall through the beech forests - they are so beautiful. Spent three nights at Lake Mahinapua, just south of Hokitika. A spacious DOC camp, with many curious weka. They come right up to where you are sitting, but skitter off as soon as you move. Hilarious watching them chase after each other. They can move pretty fast. Have to be careful what you leave...Jump to full entry
Feb 19, 2019 - Our final few days ... fun, sun, wine and friends Auckland
We arrive to a bit of sunshine and some dark cloud off in the horizon. We are number 36 for departure and expect to get off at about 8:30 … which is no big deal as we can’t even drop our bags at our hotel till after 2pm. About 8:20, when we have not heard any announcements for 20 minutes, we head down from breakfast on 14 to level 4 and ask security what number they are on. Only to find out they are on 31 still and there is huge line. She kindly asks our number and then opens the gate right at the exit and we are gone. There is a Luggage...Jump to full entry
Feb 19, 2019 - Back to the North Island
Today we arrive at 8 am into Wellington, the capital of New Zealand and at the bottom tip of the North Island. We had been here on our driving trip but as we only had ½ day there, there is a lot we didn’t see. The weather is fabulous, hot and sunny. There are shuttles into two points in town as you are not allowed to walk through the port. We get off at the first drop point and go across the street to the Old Government Buildings. This is one of the largest wooden structures in the world built in 1876. It is terrific shape and they have...Jump to full entry
Feb 13, 2019 - In the north continued
Food and Wine festival was very pleasant. Tried lots of different wines and tasted a few of the very tasty dishes available. Managed to get a table in the big marquee they had set up; a great place to sit out of the sun, with a bit of a breeze. Gloria and I attend a cooking session hosted by Annabel White. She moved beside me as Ken rang. We had walked down to the venue and Ken had caught the shuttle, so wanted to know where we were. Annabel asked who was calling and why, I replied husband, who was lost. She then got me to ring him and had...Jump to full entry
