Dec 26, 2008 - León

Dec 26, 2008 Hey all, Well we are not in Leon. I don{t even know where that is. However, I can{t prononce the city we are in. So forget about me spelling it. All I can tell you that we are in the capital of Hondouras. We spent a full day travelling and now we are not aloud to wonder the streets. Well at least it is not recomended. This is one of the most poorest place to be in so I am happy to say that this place is just a stop over. That{s all for this entry. Adios.

Dec 17, 2008 - Managua to Chinandega, Nicaragua

Our final goal was Chinandega, Nicaragua. We are planning on living in this community, which is northwest of the capital city of Managua. It has a population of 441,000, and offers several large supermarkets. This will be a plus for us after living for 6 years in Santani, Paraguay. However, Chinandega is considered the hottest part of Nicaragua. When we were there on Sunday, 12/14, it was about 75 degrees. They told us "welcome to winter, this is as cold as it gets"! We, again, felt right at home as we saw chickens in the road, trucks...

Jan 11, 2008 - Chicken Buses

Today was our craziest travel day yet! I think we were on the road for 12 hours...this includes a taxi ride and 5 different buses (3 of which were¨chicken buses¨)...let me take a moment to describe the chicken buses in Honduras and Nicaragua. Our group decided that we all prefered not to upgrade our bus to a private one, but rather that we wanted to ride with the locals and get the full experience (...in walks... the chicken bus). These buses are great fun and absolute chaos all at once. They look just like American yellow school buses,...

I have a few minutes before I have to catch a bus and thought I would drop you all a line and let you know how the trip goes... The last week has been absolutely amazing!!! Gratefully, I was able to retrieve my bag and the next day, we left Guatemala and headed to spend a few days lounging in the Bay Islands on Isla Utila. It's quite the hustler's paradise and apparently very easy to get waylaid... Almost everyone we talked to said that they came with the intention of staying a few days and just never left. We even changed our plans to add...

Viaje del Volcán

Jul 13, 2007 - León

Leon so far has been really fun and also a needed respite from constant craziness. We got here on a private, AIR CONDITIONED bus that took us straight to the hotel 'Los Balcones.' So far it is the nicest place we have stayed- very pretty rustic dark wood furnishings and lots of balconies and places to sit and relax(hence the name). We have a shower sans bugs and also not ice cold water(though it did turn off and on yesterday three times while we were trying to get clean!). In the afternoon, we found a lady who does salsa classes out of her...

Apr 3, 2007 - Leon

After leaving Mark and Clair we headed to Leon, the old capital of Nicaragua. It was time to cut the mullet off the back of my head, so i popped into the market barber. Seemed like a nice boy. Hayley thereafter decided to have a trim but came back distraught as her barber cut off about 4 inches!! Another bad hair experience for HG. Anyway, ya probably don't care for our hair issues but, I tell ya, when you've been away from the ratrace this long haircuts become events!

Feb 5, 2007 - On the road - Leon

Just a quick note to say that we flew back to Managua from the Corn Islands, took a minibus up to the colonial city of Leon for some serious culture and art and are now headed for the highlands for some cooler air and walks in the forest. More real soon. Juan y Rosalita.

Aug 8, 2006 - LEON - Nicaragua

KARIN GOES FAR

Apr 12, 2006 - Nicaragua, Leon

Highlights: Walking around the city-learning about the history, Climbing Telica-I think!, Via via Hostel: Hostal la Clinica 130 cordobas for a single shared bath. Basic but the family is fun! You become one of the family when you step inside. Bigfoot and Via Via are great and across the street from each other. 1 US = 17.2 cordobas Tip: I came through the Guasaule border from Honduras. IT is INTENSE. You get hounded by lots of men trying to change your money, take your bags. Don't change your money until you get to the other side. It is 20...

Estelibol par ora alatt eljutottam Leonba. Szep kolonialis varos, kozep-amcsi legnagyobb katedralisaval.
