May 19, 2018 - Prescott

We deserted the kitty this morning to drive to Prescott to visit with friends, Dan and Darlene. It had been a while since we had seen them. And the last time we had the trailer with us so stayed in a national forest campground. This time we were going to stay with them as guests in their home. It was funny, we didn’t have their address, so relied on our memory instead of the GPS to find their place again. And we drove right to it! Another couple, Mike and Jan, joined us for drinks and an excellent dinner of barbecues ribs. Jan brought sides...

May 17, 2018 - Oh No !

We drove across the river today to Laughlin so I could put something in the mail. Afterwards we went for a drive to check out some of the local area. We found a park across the river with hiking and biking trails, which we will definitely have to check out more thoroughly next year. We also drove a few roads on the Arizona side and discovered something I thought was really scary. Being from Colorado I was used to seeing runaway truck ramps. They consist of a designated roadway up a hill and paved with deep gravel. Not so here! It was a...

May 16, 2018 - How does She Know?

Where is the time going? I cannot believe this month is half over already! It is getting hot again, so we just stayed in today. Except for a long walk around the park this morning. There was a potluck scheduled for dinner this evening. We had not been able to go to the one last week so planned to go tonight. It was funny. On the way to the clubhouse it looked deserted. And sure enough, there were the two ladies who work here, and Walt, the man whose trailer burned, and us. It was nice talking with Walt; a very nice man who, unfortunately,...

May 15, 2018 - A Winner !

So we went into Laughlin today to this branch of the Dermatology clinic for Don’s checkup. They have offices in 5 different cities; they must go crazy moving from office to office, but glad they do so we didn’t have to drive back to Havasu City again. (We do that next week for my stitches.) It didn’t take very long, so we drove back to the casino for breakfast and to play the final $20 on my players card. Since I am terrible at gambling, I played until I made $20 then cashed out. I guess I just hate to lose money, even if it’s not mine!

May 13, 2018 - Mother's Day

Don told me he had planned a nice Mother’s Day for me, but would not tell me anything about it. It began with coffee and watching Sunday Morning in bed. The second cup of coffee was liberally laced with Irish /cream, a treat my cousin Sonny got us started on. Then he said to get ready to go; “we are going out to eat breakfast.” Of course. We went to IHop and luckily got there just before the rush started. He had chicken fried steak and eggs, and I had corned beef hash and eggs. Then we started driving. He turned onto a dirt road just off...

May 11, 2018 - Back to Ordinary

Yesterday and the night before were difficult, as there was much pain from the surgery. But things are much better now, and I finally got a good night’s sleep. Until 4:30 this morning, that is, when the trash truck emptied the dumpster near us. Not a good idea! Even woke up the cat, who decided that it was nearly time to get up and so got us up sooner than normal. This was laundry day, so we decided to get it done before it got too hot. It is supposed to be cooler today, only 99 instead of 107. Yay!?

May 9, 2018 - Surgery Day

We got up as usual, with coffee in bed. But as we were sitting there we heard sirens. Don could see the road from his window and remarked that it looked like a fire truck. Then we saw another one. And then it sounded like it was coming into the trailer park, so we got up to look out. I Saw it from my window. The trailer across the street was on fire, with flames shooting high in the air. We had seen this once before, when we were in Albuquerque. It didn’t take long to engulf the whole trailer. And sure enough, this one was fully involved in...

May 8, 2018 - Unexpected News

We both slept well last night. As we were getting our things together, I took a phone call. I don’t usually answer unidentified calls, but did this time. It was the dermatologist office, calling to tell me that the biopsy was positive, and they were going to schedule surgery the next day. We had to drive back to Lake Havasu City since the surgeon would not be in Bullhead City or Laughlin until the 29th. Well that messed up our plans! We were looking forward to leaving soon since it was getting so hot here. We finished getting our things...

May 7, 2018 - Old Friends

Our plan for this day was to meet Sal and Sue, a couple we had met last year at Emerald Cove, for lunch. Frank and Jackie had asked us to call them around 11, so we did, and invited them to join us for lunch. They said they never eat that early. They had gone back to the casino and did not go to bed until 5:30 in the morning. Crazy! Anyway, we did meet Sal and Sue and had an enjoyable lunch with them. They were moving to Bullhead City, and were staying in their 5th wheel while their house was being built. Unfortunately, we were not able to...

May 6, 2018 - My Birthday

We had a complimentary 2-night stay at the Riverside Casino, so had mad reservations to spend my birthday and the next night there. Along with that we had free movie tickets, 2 free dinners in their steakhouse and $50 in free slot play. We also invited friends Frank and Jackie to join us. As it turned out, they had free rooms available at the Colorado Belle, a casino down the road from ours, so they stayed there. We checked in around 1:00 o’clock. It took another hour or so to get settled and to sign up for our players cards. Then we...

May 4, 2018 - Move to Ridgeview

Today was moving day again. This time we were going to a new acquisition of the CRA group, Ridgeview RV Resort. The advantage was that it was close to the casinos, and also close to Havasu City should the biopsy turn out to be positive. Plus, we had a complimentary 2-night stay at one of the casinos. The rest of the time I planned to loll around by the pool and be generally lazy for a bit. Unfortunately that was quashed at check in when I read the sign saying the pool was closed until further notice for renovation. Bummer! That meant that...

May 1, 2018 - The Dead Mountains

Don's brilliant idea today, since it was cooler than usual, was to hike to an old mine he had seen across from the Avi Casino in the Dead Mountains. I was agreeable, so we headed out. The access road was blocked off, so we were faced with a longer hike than expected. The mine looked like it was really far away. Nevertheless, with hiking sticks in hand, we started off. We could follow a road for a short way, just up to the telephone lines, then had to cut cross country. We chose a likely ravine to follow, which worked for a while, then went...
