Jun 29, 2020 - Goodyear, AZ
We traveled I-40 to US 60 into Goodyear, AZ where we stayed at Cotton Lane RV Resort for one week. Our grandson, Zach, was playing baseball at the Kansas City Royals/Texas Rangers practice fields for two weeks. We could only join for one week, but came to watch him play only to discover they had closed the games to all but one parent due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in the state. After several days, they let grandparents and family members into the parks, but with face masks required and social distancing necessary. Jill was staying in...Jump to full entry
May 1, 2019 - Destiny RV Resort - (4/20 - 4/22/19)
These few days were a bit off of our scheduled trip. We left Salome heading to Surprise, but we didn't quite make it. We still didn't have dash indicators, but were able to get the speed from the GPS. About half way to our destination the RV started sputtering and finally quit. Tim got us off the road on the shoulder. We weren't very far off the road and there was a lot of traffic, many tractor trailers. That is not the place to be broken down in an RV. I got on the phone and called AAA. To our dismay and distress they couldn't get to us...Jump to full entry
Jan 26, 2019 - Goodyear, AZ - Cotton Lane RV Park
After two nights we headed I-40 to AZ 95 through Lake Havasu and Quartzite to Cotton Ln RV Park in Goodyear, AZ. We stayed 4 nights here to visit several friends, Ron & Jackie Athey, Ray & Linda Webb, my good friend, Ruth Parker and then long time friend, Charleen Peake. Staying that many days allowed us great visiting time and some relaxing time at the park. It was here that I started walking again. Dale and I were able to take several 20-30 minute walks which is a first for me in over 18 months. Nice to be that mobile again. Goodyear, AZ...Jump to full entry
Jan 29, 2018 - Goodyear, AZ - Cotton Lane RV Park
Easy day's drive through the desert. Arrived and were setting up in 83 degree weather and greeted by a roadrunner. Made my day. Most parks in the area, especially out east of town are full. Lots of people staying in RV's for the winter now. Prices have certainly gone up for camping. This will be an expensive trip. We are here for four nights and will see Ruth Parker on Wednesday and Dale & Carroll Rees on Thursday. Also got to see Dave Jedynak for lunch with Rees'. Dotti had had minor leg surgery and was unable to join us.Jump to full entry
Mar 16, 2017 - Phoenix International Raceway
Youza is all i can say AGAIN. Temps in mid 90s for whole 4 days at the track, know why its called the Valley of the Sun for sure. Great races all weekend, Ryan the "rocket man" won after a 138 race drought in a 2 lap restart dash at end of race. Lots of favorites were very upset at result. Lots of visiting with our Tucson friends and Monday arrived before we wanted it to. Will return to Mesa for 2 days before heading to Calif for one last week before heading home. I see weather has returned to normal on our island so feel its safe to come...Jump to full entry
Jun 4, 2016 - HOT - PART DEUX!
Okay....I think we truly have dropped into Hell, through no fault of our own. At least I hope so... How do you spell miserable "Joyce and John in Arizona", that is how!!! Temperatures reached 117 today, and as I type this it is only 91 at 12:09 A.M. Sunday. The inside of the RV this afternoon was...drum roll....another drum roll...101! That is with both AC's fans, water bowls in front of two fans, wet towels around our necks, two showers of pure cold water...etc, etc. I think you get the picture. Here is some worldly advice from someone...Jump to full entry
Jun 3, 2016 - HOT!
If we make it through the weekend, I will be 20 lbs lighter. Today's estimated temperature is 112 degrees. And, 114 for tomorrow. I think we made it to Hell. Yesterday it only made it to 105, but the inside temperature in the RV was 96. That was with 2 air conditioners going, 2 fans with bowls of water in front of them, and all windows covered. We kept a wet towel in the freezer and periodically would wipe our bodies down, and Toby's as well, to help keep cool. Yikes! Thank goodness it cools down to upper 70's at night so we can sleep. We...Jump to full entry
May 24, 2016 - She's baaack...
Looks like I have been AWOL for a bit. Yeah, it has been a pretty sedate, boring life we have been living this month. We have gone out for dinner a few times, but for the most part we have stayed at home just doing stuff. John has started doing some leather crafts and made my son a cell phone holder that clips on to his belt. Since Michael is a firefighter (of the year, I might add..so proud) he engraved his Fire House logo onto it. It turned out really cool and I am so excited that he is finding a hobby to keep him busy. He is now working...Jump to full entry
May 9, 2016 - Sam Hill
Have you ever wondered about the comment "Sam Hill"...which in olden times they used as a swear word? We were watching an old movie tonight and someone used the phrase and I wanted to know what it meant...so, off to the Internet to find out. Here is the answer: "A possible origin for the phrase "Sam Hill" is the surveyor Samuel W. Hill (1819–1889). Hill allegedly used such foul language that his name became a euphemism for swear words". So now you know. You are welcome. We were going to a museum in Phoenix on Saturday, but first we stopped...Jump to full entry
May 4, 2016 - 100 degrees...nooooo.
Yesterday we met up with our friends from Colorado...John and Arlene. We met them at the RV park in Benson, Arizona almost 4 years ago and have been able to meet up with them at least once a year. They are dear, dear friends and we always have a great time with them. We had lunch at a great Mexican restaurant called Manuels. Then they came over to see our redecorating on the RV. They approved and that made us smile. Today we didn't leave ...at all. I think I will just say it, we were miserable today. it was 100 degrees outside today and...Jump to full entry
May 2, 2016 - Our new bedroom
I know I say this every month...but, can you believe it is May already? Heading into Summer. You know Summer used to be my favorite season, but I am thinking that I am edging towards Fall. Maybe it is because we have been spending so much time in the Southwest where it is always Summer....ha. Back in the swing of things. We have been doing a bit more remodeling. This time it is the bedroom. We painted it a chocolate brown on the walls, but the slide area we decided on a tan color so it wouldn't be so dark. Notice I said "we"...hahaha....Jump to full entry
Apr 28, 2016 - Changes
Back home again with dog and husband. Now, I just looked at that sentence...seems like husband should have come first, huh? Hehehe It is always good to get home when you have been away for a bit. I had a wonderful time with Michael and Megan and am looking forward to visiting them again next Spring. My husband was quite busy while I was gone. We have talked about remodeling the RV, as I mentioned a week or so ago, and he decided to surprise me. Boy, did he ever! He painted the walls of the bathroom a taupe color, then added a peel and stick...Jump to full entry
