Feb 14, 2019 - On "The Steps"

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY from the Colorado River As I write this we are having a fairly heavy rain. They have forecast an inch or more for this area today!!! After saying goodbye to our Yuma friends, we left there yesterday, Feb 13. The past 10 weeks have flown by. As with the rest of the country, the weather in Yuma this winter has been unusual. Our landlords, Joe and Joanne, say that they have never seen such a cloudy/rainy winter. Not THAT many clouds or THAT much rain compared to the rest of the country mind you!! The bonus to this is that...

Jan 18, 2019 - Getting our 60's amd 70's groove on. VW Busses!

Today we took a side trip just for the day to Lake Havasu City. There is a big VW Bus show going on. They had 562 busses registered by the time we got there on Friday with even more coming in. Only busses. All the cute little VW slug bugs and Things had to park outside. We saw old busses, newer ones, jacked up ones, and rusty buckets. All very cool. I liked the window screens that several were sporting that looked like eyes. It made them look like they should be in the move Cars. I met one couple travelling in their bus around the country...

Oct 17, 2017 - Lake Havasu

Arrived on Saturday for a few days of R & R. It has been close to 100 each day. Not our kind of weather. Of course we've been to see the London Bridge, the area's claim to fame. The lake is huge because it is really a part of the Colorado River. Water temp is in the mid 60s.

Oct 1, 2016 - Arizona

Sept 28 – 29 The temperatures have been 95 to 102 here in Palm Springs,so today was hang out at the pool for a couple of hours. Tonight is the Villagefest Market where they close N. Palm Canyon Drive for about 6 blocks from 7pm-10pm. We went late afternoon to shop the regular souvenir stores, funky clothing boutiques, vinyl record shops & grab a bite to eat at one of the dozens of restaurants in the area. After 2 different couples just started up conversations on eateries, we decided to try the Fisherman’s Market. Stand in line & order at...

Mar 13, 2016 - Cattail Cove State Park, Lake Havasu

After Joshua Tree, we went over to the Lake Havasu area. It was nice, but very busy. The weather was unusually hot so everyone was coming into the area to enjoy the water and land. We've never seen so many ATV's and dirt bikes! The Colorado River is damed up just south of where we were. It's the Parker Dam and is the deepest dam in the world; it is 320 feet high, but 235 feet of it is below the riverbed. The second picture isn't the dam, but the outtake system for supplying all the water to the California farming irrigation systems. ...

Mar 28, 2015 - Lake Havasu

Today is Saturday, after driving to Quartzsite and staying there in an awful campsite for 1 night we arrived Friday in Lake Havasu which is on the border with California. We had heard much about this place but after checking in at the National Park we soon found out this was not for us. The noise and stink from the many power boats and seadoos on the lake made us flee for more quieter surroundings. So we are now staying on BLM lands, these are public lands where you can camp for free and have no conveniences what so ever. You are just...

Feb 23, 2014 - Lake Havasu Car Show

One terrific motorcycle ride was to Lake Havasu State Park to walk around at the Car and Motorcycle show. There were people doing costumes, hairdos and makeup to fit in with a fifties theme. We were with Skye and Casey and several of their friends from Boise. We had a scenic ride up route 72 to Parker, where we got onto route 95 and rode north to Havasu. We saw lots of cars and a few motorcycles, even a giant shopping cart was available to take the tourists to different parts of the venue.

Jan 31, 2014 - Jan. 30, Thurs. Day:107

Jan. 30, 2014 - Day 107 Thurs. & all four of us went on a day trip; off to Oatman, AZ. So....quote:" Oatman is a former mining town in the Black Mountains of Mohave County, Arizona, United States. Located at an elevation of 2,710 feet (830 m), it began as a tent camp soon after two prospectors struck a $10 million gold find in 1915, though the area had been already settled for a number of years. Oatman's population grew to more than 3,500 in the course of a year. After a few other names, Oatman was named in the posthumous honor of Olive...

Jan 29, 2014 - Jan. 28, Tues. Day:105

Jan. 28, 2014 - Day 105 Tues is laundry day & what a day it was to find a Laundromat. Oh about our neighbours from Puce; he is the owner of Whitfield Welding & I know that I have seen him a couple times at the places that I used to work. So the GPS tells us that there is Laundromat at this address but lo & behold there is not one there; it's like an alien spacecraft came & took it out. Well after locating the Tourist Info Centre we finally found the reason for no Laundromat, they just decided to close it up last August & no one knew about...

Jan 27, 2014 - Mon. Day:104

Jan. 27, 2014 - Day 104 So Mon. we broke camp & headed 73 mi. North or an 1 1/2 hrs. to Lake Havasu City, AZ & a 4 day stay at the Lake Havasu State Park. I won't bore with the menial details but it was a fairly smooth drive & we got there with no problems. Mike & Deb were just finishing off at the Dump Station & then it was our turn. Done & off to our site. This was a back in & I thought that I did a fine job. It's a very nice State park overlooking the lake which is a lake in the midst of the Colorado River. I finished setting up the camp...

Jan 26, 2014 - The sunsets keep getting better

1-25-2014. Lake Havasu State Park. The weather has been a bit overcast and windy here the last couple days. But as you can see from the pictures, God can turn the clouds into a dynamic sunset. They have a lot of nice walking paths here that wind along the lake, so Zoey and I have been enjoying our daily walks. We have noticed that at dusk, cute little brown rabbits with white cotton tail bottoms come out from their holes in the ground, and look for food. Zoey hasn't noticed them yet, but they sure are watching her. 1-26-2014 Today the...
