Apr 1, 2019 - Parker Arizona

This is a very popular pretty area that seldom has any available drive in camping sites.Since everyone is now moving out of this area, some sites have now opened up. We left site 22 in Yuma and arrived in our new site 22 here in Parker. We will be at the River Island State Park on the Colorado river for one night. It is a very short hop from Yuma, getting us back into the groove for the long driving days coming over the next week. Temp 29C Elevation 390 feet It was a great drive today,so many people leaving Yuma, we had a long line of...

Nov 16, 2018 - Van Build Party 2018

November 16, 2018 Van Build Party 2018 Ruffians, Riffraff and Foul-mouthed Hooligans. And that was just MY tribe, lol. We were some of the well-behaved ones. As in any large group of people there's always a chance that there will be some unsavory folks. This is the first time I have really experienced it on the road. There was a couple camping in a tent just down the hill from me who didn't mind fighting and screaming at night, or visiting the outhouse, aka as a scrawny creosote bush, in broad daylight right next to my friends' camper. The...

Apr 26, 2018 - A hole in my Head

Well, today was the day to meet our new dermatologist. It turned out to be a female, a PA, who was very personable and no nonsense about her job. We went in together, and Don took the hotseat first as he had several questions and spots he wanted her to assess. One of them she wanted to biopsy, a small spot on his chest. No sooner was she done with that than she turned to me. But he wasn't done yet, so more questions were answered before my turn. I only had one thing for her to look at specifically (although she did assess the whole body). I...

Apr 25, 2018 - Happy Hour on the Lake

Mike and Caron cam by earlier in the day to suggest we do our happy hour in the boat again. We happily accepted their invitation. It did not take either of us long to get snacks and beverages packed up to go to the boat, and no time at all to get launched and out into the lake. Today's sunset was more golden than fiery red but still made for some good pics. Mike and Don are very much alike with pretty much the same sense of humor. Caron and I spent a bit of time rolling our eyes at some of their comments and stories. We also spent time...

Apr 24, 2018 - Doctor and a day on the lake

Yesterday we drove into Lake Havasu City for Don's yearly heart checkup. We had originally intended to go back to Durango, but they could not get him in until the end of August. So, since we plan to be here in the winters for a few more years, we found a new doctor here. He was really busy, but at least we could get in within 3 weeks. So status quo, everything is good for another year. While in town we were going to pick up the new patient paperwork for our dermatology appointments, which were scheduled on Wednesday. BUT, when we got there...

Apr 22, 2018 - Time Passes

We have spent the last week pretty much just staying in the campground. Don has played gold a few days, and I have walked along with him. It is a neat little course, probably the only one that has gotten me interested (maybe) in learning to play. We are usually back by noon, then stay inside until it cools off a bit in the evening. It has been hot! hot! hot! up to 103. Even the kitty hates it. She has taken to lying on the kitchen counter where she gets the most cool air from the air conditioner. And that has been running nearly non stop...

Apr 13, 2018 - Havasu Springs Living

Don has played golf 3 times now, and is doing pretty good. I have enjoyed just walking along. The scenery is beautiful, and the course is in such good shape that I have gone barefoot most of the time. We have happy hour every day at 5 o’clock on the patio on the shady side of the trailer. Trixie has come out a couple of times but does not like the gravel or the noises. She has a better time watching from her window in the bedroom. Today is Friday the 13th so we had to go to the restaurant to celebrate. Since we were married on a Friday the...

Apr 11, 2018 - On to Parker, AZ

(We're doing laundry in Parker today (4/16) & have wifi so am playing catch-up.) This morning there was no wind so we hit the road fairly early (8:30) in order to get to Parker before the wind came up - & we succeeded. No wind for the drive & we got to La Paz County Park outside Parker early afternoon. The wind did come up later this afternoon so we were glad to be here & set up. We're looking forward to exploring the area in the coming days. More later...

Apr 11, 2018 - Move to civilization

Well, we had one relatively passable day since I wrote last. It was hot, but we had winds all day long. Still had to turn on the generator so we could run the air conditioner though. We drove into Lake Havasu City yesterday to pick up some new patient paperwork for Don. He is going to establish a heart specialist here since we plan to be in the area the next few years. We are going to be in or near Durango possibly, but cannot get in until August. Which is totally ridiculous! We also wanted to make an appointment to get our taxes done,...

Mar 27, 2018 - Time is Getting Short

We drove into town this morning to find a thrift store to leave some stuff I had separated out. We came home with 2 shorts for Don and 3 blouses for me. Thrift stores are just the best! In the afternoon, we played 9 holes of golf on the course here, Jackass Flats. That is really the name! Don said it was practice for when we get to Havasu Springs, but it doesn’t hold a candle to that course. Happy hour by the pool. We are really going to miss the Tikki Bar when we leave here on Friday! At least the weather is warm now so we don't have to...

Mar 25, 2018 - Miniature Golf

We played miniature golf today, the first time this trip. Instead of the equipment they have we used Don’s putter and golf balls. (It is not what you are thinking, Row!) It really made a difference, at least for me. Don wanted to play best 2 out of 3. We went home after 2. I really trounced him the second game, beat him by 6 strokes. Usually I am really bad at miniature golf. Maybe I can help when we get to Havasu Springs!
