Oct 22, 2019 - Hello Quartzite, So Long Quartzite

We left Williams on Monday, arriving in Quartzite, Arizona, on our way west. The RV Park was adequate, at best, but definitely lands up a few rungs on the skeez-o-meter. Oftentimes when we are planning & researching a big trip such as this, we go on the Internet and read the reviews and check out the pictures of the place. One thing we often wonder is, “where did they take that picture?” Because it sure didn’t look like that on their website! Quartzite is one of those towns that I wonder why anyone would want to live there! However, I know...

Apr 13, 2019 - Park Place RV Park (4/12 - 4/15/19)

It was time to leave Yuma and we came back to another favorite spot, Quartzsite. This time, though, we stayed at an RV park instead of boondocking in the desert. It is just a bit too warm to have to run the generator all the time. On the way we came to a border check. Tim put down his window in case he needed to speak to anyone. Once we got through the checkpoint he went to put it back up and it wouldn't budge. Just what we needed with the A/C running. Oh well, it wasn't too long a drive to Quartzsite. We spent 4 nights there for $15 per...

Feb 19, 2019 - Quartzsite trip

Todays scheduled plans did not happen. Our Propane heater shut down some time in the wee hours and we woke up in a v e r y c o l d trailer. After finding 1 tank empty and the other partially full it looked like were about to warm up again after switching the regulator. NOPE, that that did not solve the problem,it seemed our heater needed some help from a specialist. After scouting out what was available,it was apparent that there was no service in Yuma for this thing. With a frost warning in effect tonight we needed that heater functioning...

Feb 7, 2019 - Quartzsite for a night

One more night in Quartzsite. It was halfway from where we were heading so we stopped for one night. In the town of Ehrenburg, we stopped for a late lunch, or was that early dinner? We met up with a couple who we will also be working at Yellowstone with, Sandy and Mike. Nice to get acquainted with them. In the restaurant, they had flip flops tacked to the ceiling. I never did get the story behind that.

Jan 31, 2019 - Geocaching Rally in the desert

We went to another BLM Boondocking spot in the desert. This time we met up with several geocachers. Geocaching in case you don’t know, is like a scavenger hunt. It is played with phones that have a geocaching app downloaded (its free), or a hand held GPS. If you look at a geocaching map of your neighborhood I can almost guarantee there are caches near you. A cache is a hidden container that has a log book in it. They may be under a rock, in a hollow tree, or even light posts, and some very ingenious places. Sometimes there are trinkets or...

Jan 29, 2019 - Quartzsite (1/17 - 1/22/19)

We arrived to find that our new choice site was available!!! Not far behind us was a road that was well traveled by 4-wheelers. They stopped at dark so it wasn't a problem. Where we parked there wasn't room for anyone behind us, but there was a big open space in front. Eventually there were a couple of other RVs in that area, but most of the time we were pretty much by ourselves. After we got settled we drove into town to wander around and see what was happening. We were looking for a shepherd's hook to hold a birdfeeder and found one at a...

Jan 25, 2019 - National Geographic Photo!!!!

There is a blog written by National Geographic about birds. Every week a topic is announced and photographers from all over the world submit photos. The top 25 photos for the week are selected, then published online in this blog. This morning I found out that I made the cut this week! They theme was Rivers and Lakes. They liked my picture of Black Bellied Whistling Ducks from Texas. WhoooHooo!!! It is such a good feeling to be selected by National Geographic! I am still over the moon about it. And the person that got me into this, from a...

Jan 25, 2019 - Boomerville Ends

Today is the last official day of Boomerville. I mentioned before that we are camping with an off-shoot of Escapees called Boomers. Boomerville is what we call our spot where we hang out. We have had a total of 225 rigs show up at some point this year. It has been a fun two weeks. So much to do…or not do. It all depends on the person. I led a trip into Cibola National Wildlife Refuge. Ten people went with me. It was fun. We also had groups that met and talked about the trip we are going on to Mexico. A lot of Boomers will be on the same...

Jan 20, 2019 - Super Blood Moon Eclipse

The Super Moon, Lunar Eclipse night. At first there was a bit of cloud cover. We were not sure we would be able to see anything. But eventually the clouds cleared a little bit and we saw the full blood moon. Very cool to see. But I did not get a great picture of it. I should have changed some settings to allow for a faster shutter speed and more light. Instead I just got caught up in the moment and enjoyed watching. The weather was a cool 50 degrees or so. No bugs. No lights. Perfect.

Jan 16, 2019 - Quartzsite, Arizona. An RVers Winter Destination

We belong to an RV club called Escapees. Part of Escapees allows us to have a mailing address. They collect our mail, and when we land somewhere for a while, we will have our mail forwarded. Another part of Escapees is connection with people who travel in their RV’s like we do. There are several like interest groups. One we belong to is Boomers. It is a lot of Boomer generation people but it really does go further than that. We meet up here and there across country, and stay in touch through social media like Facebook. Here in Quartzsite is...

Jan 16, 2019 - Boondocking adventure

After we left The Palms RV Resort in Yuma on January 2, we made our way north to Quartzsite. The "Q" is an interesting wide space in the road at the intersection of I-10 and Highway 95. During the summer months, it is a small town with not much going on. But in the winter, it is a mecca and gathering spot for all sorts of RVs and all sorts of people too! There are some big events that draw people to the Q - there are rock and gem shows, bead shows, flea markets, swap meets and the mother of all RV shows which takes place in the middle of...

2019 Life in our RV

Jan 1, 2019 - Quartzsite (12/26 - 12/27/18)

Quartzsite is one of our favorite places. This is the 3rd time we've been here and we were able to get the very same site as both times before. Go figure! It is out in the middle of the desert! When we arrived, the wind was howling. It was cold unlike the times before. In order to be able to put out our awning and for Joanne to have a protected place for her tent, we backed into the site so we were facing away from the road. We put out our big RV rug and Alley went out and sat on it. She loves to be outside, but doesn't like her paws on the...
