Apr 20, 2019 - Last day at camp Verde

Last day in Camp Verde....sorry to be leaving Mike and Emily in the morning. We have had a blast with these guys...love y’all and thanks for the tours especially Jerome!!!! If you are out this way do not ..do not..do not go to Jerome. This town is built with the front half balancing on the ground and the backs of buildings just hanging in thin air. The road through this magical place can’t be more than 6 feet. Mike said that hippies came up here years ago to live in a commune on the side....literally on the side of a mountain. It appeared...

Apr 19, 2019 - Meteor Crater and Walnut Canyon

Today....out with canyons in with Star Wars..... Not really.....Star Wars was fiction ....we visited a Meteor Crater that was formed 50,000 yrs ago. (Not fiction). The size of the meteorite was about 150 feet across and weighted several hundred thousand tons...explosion was greater than 20 million tons of TNT. The meteorite created a giant bowl shaped hole. This hole is 700 ft deep ( size of a 60 story building) over 4,000 ft across (size of 20 football fields) and 2.4 miles in circumference. Some of the fragments were found several miles...

Apr 18, 2019 - Grand Canyon

Spent the whole day driving to different Grand Canyon viewing sights. Every stop seem so different, the shapes and colors of the canyon are breathtaking. Started at the east rim ended at south rim in the Kaibab National Park. Saw the dumbest people ever.....some going around the protected wall to take pictures...and those that sat on the wall with their feet hanging off. These viewing sights are at elevations up to 6,000 ft. If you fall, like several no brain people have done, just for a selfy ...........you are dead. A 69 yr old lady fell...

Apr 17, 2019 - Montezuma Well and Castle

Today forward to Montezuma’Castle.....which isn’t really a castle..it is a large 45 room cliff dwelling. The Castle was built between 1100 and 1300AD into the side of a cliff Then rode over to see Montezuma s Well...which isn’t really a well...it is a lake. The well has no fish as it is limestone sink. The amazing fact is the well is replenish with 1.5 million gallons of water every day flowing from underground streams. Early settlers assumed the Castle and Well were built by Aztec people.... Hence the name Montezuma. Not like Montezuma...

Apr 17, 2019 - Sedona

We all loaded up the car and headed to Sedona to sightsee. Emily and Mike are great tour guides, cheaper than with a Groupon discount....hehe just joking guys. The most impressive site of Sedona is the Chapel of the Holy Cross Catholic Church. A lady who was a sculptor was inspired by the newly constructed Empire State Building in 1932 so she commissioned the chapel to be built. The chapel is built on top of the red rocks in Coconine National Forest....Barry Goldwater helped her get a special permit to build it. Chapel opened in 1956....it...

Mar 5, 2019 - Sedona AZ

Toured Sedona on one of those old trolley cars, lucky to be standing in the right spot,so we got a open window seat. Others were tucked in behind the enclosed front end ,probably didnt see much while driving. However the best parts were when we stopped at the scenic overlooks, funny I dont remember much of any of this when we were here in 2012. Town has really grown,to many buildings and people now and takes away from the serenity of it all for me. Traffic is non stop and this place has the most traffic circles I have ever seen for a small...

Jan 27, 2019 - Trip To Sedona

Day 19. Sunday 27th January Cold again during the night & the heater blower is too noisy to have that on so keeping snuggled under the covers. I bought a little electric heater from the Walmart’s in Kingman on the way here but that was useless against the cold so that’s going back. Nice & sunny again so we soon warmed up again. Today we decided to take the RV off site & drive up to Sedona about 25 miles to the North. Sedona really is a lovely city set in the most spectacular area surrounded by spectacular red/brown cliffs & mountains. The...

Oct 30, 2018 - week in Sedona

On Monday October 22, we relocated from Page AZ to Camp Verde AZ and settled Mo into Zane Grey RV Village which is about an hour north of Phoenix. We are scheduled to stay at Zane Grey until the Monday after Thanksgiving. One of the main reasons we chose this park/area was that we had plans to go on "vacation" to Sedona which is about 40 miles from the RV park. Long time readers will remember that we spent the holidays last year with our friends, Jack and Barb, at their house near Houston. We wanted to repay them for their kindness by...

Apr 24, 2018 - Sedona

Today was a hot one. 36 C. We did some quick grocery shopping and then headed to Sedona through Red Rock Canyon. Beautiful rock formations, and the town is very pretty, but very busy! We visited Jim's Trading Post in McGuireville, and picked up some turquoise jewelry. After lunch we visited Montezuma's Castle and Well and stopped at a roadside stall selling Indian art and jewelry.
