Sep 29, 2019 - Colorado to Arizona

What a difference a week can make! On Monday we left South Fork at 8,200' elevation & cool fall temperatures. Today we're in Wellton, AZ, & it's a cool day with a forecast high of 87! (It was 93 yesterday!) We had a nice trip with good weather & no problems. We didn't leave Riverbend until mid-morning & we spent Monday night in Cortez, CO, at Sundance RV Park - very nice. We were on the road again by 9:00 Tuesday morning. We left the San Juan Mountains behind & headed out through the desert. Watching the landscape & vegetation change is...

Mar 15, 2019 - Winter in Arizona 2018-2019

A couple friends have asked me if I stopped doing a trip journal. Well, I didn't intentionally quit but it appears other things have taken priority lately. We couldn't believe my last update was September, 2018 before we left Colorado! We certainly haven't taken many photos, and we haven't been traveling. To bring you up-to-date, we left Colorado October 4 and returned to Oklahoma City for a brief visit before coming to Arizona November 4 for the winter. I drove from Colorado to Oklahoma and then to Arizona due to Bill's health issues. He...

Dec 9, 2017 - Merry Christmas

Here it is almost Christmas and I'm just now updating our trip journal for the first time since arriving in Wellton for the winter. We're back at the Pioneer RV Park until the end of March. It's not that we've been unusually busy. In fact we haven't taken photos at all since we've been here. We had a nice dinner with a group of 14 at our table at the park Thanksgiving. We're now preparing for 17 for Christmas. In between we had a nice visit with Ed and Sue Crawford from Michigan. They were here for a week before heading to California to be...

Dec 8, 2016 - Merry Christmas

We haven't been traveling, so we don't have normal travel photos to post. We're using this journal communication to wish all our family and friends a very Merry Christmas. It will be an unusual one for us. Ruth is having knee replacement surgery on Monday, December 12 here in Yuma, Arizona. She expects to be in the hospital three days, rehab up to a week and then home with physical therapy for 6 weeks. Having quickly tired of limited mobility, she is anxious to get this problem fixed! The most exciting thing going on for us other than that...

Mar 26, 2016 - Happy Easter

Happy Easter and Happy Spring to everyone! It has seemed like summer rather than spring for almost a month here. We're ready to move on to Oklahoma for a real spring minus any tornadoes please... All the trees and flowers are in full bloom and causing lots of allergy issues for people. Many have moved on only to find snow up north. All the activities are ending. Our last one will be an Easter dinner with friends here in the park. We plan to depart on March 31. Our itinerary as we know it for now is posted below. If we're near you, we hope...

Happy Valentines to all our family and friends! We're having a nice day here in Wellton, Arizona. Bill and I celebrated early with lunch at Chili's in Yuma yesterday. Tonight two other couples are joining us here at our place for dinner and Joker. It has been quite a while since my last update. It's not that we haven't been busy. We really enjoyed our three weeks with Mike and Mary Ella. Our photos this time include some of the places we visited with them. We made it to Quartzsite for the annual RV Show. Dec 26, 2015 - Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! We're really ready for 2016 and hoping for a peaceful, quiet year compared to this one. While we haven't been traveling past Yuma since our last update, there has been lots of activity and we have some photos we want to share with you and make a part of our journal. Bill got a new bicycle for his birthday and has been riding it around the park along with his regular walking. Since our last update we have had two holiday dinners here at Pioneer RV Park in Wellton, Arizona. At Thanksgiving we had ten people and for...

Nov 13, 2015 - Pioneer RV Park

We arrived in Wellton on November 4. New owners here at the Pioneer RV Park have made a number of noticeable improvements since we were here two years ago. First, the park is entirely free of stickers and weeds that were in the sand. What a job that must have been. There's a new shuffleboard court and all three are new slick surfaces that present an interesting challenge to play. There's a new outdoor fireplace surrounded by nice lawn furniture nearby. The activities room is repainted and recarpeted. The tennis courts are now pickle ball...

Mar 2, 2014 - Yuma Lettuce Days Festival

Yuma Lettuce Days is an annual event we enjoyed two years ago for the first time. This year it rained on Saturday so we waited until Sunday to go. We arrived early, had beautiful weather and certainly beat the crowds. By the time we left there were lines for everything. A crowd favorite and one I always enjoy is Chef Ray Duey. He makes amazingly beautiful arrangements out of all kinds of vegetables. This time he was choosing young girls from the audience, playing music they could sing to while he carved, and creating a flower for them out...

Feb 18, 2014 - The Well town - railway and stagecoaches

Feb 18 moving onto Wellton BLM. $0.00 /night, love the price. We saw 2 Boeing CH-47 Chinook choppers ( cargo and troop carrier) and old F-35's the first day here. One F-35 did a fly-by, he was so close i could see his eyes. Feb 19 - Desert birds were chirping this morning. WE almost forgot how quiet the desert is. I tracked down some old friends from PG and Wasa Lake. Feb 20 - Went golfing in Lafluer's mini tournament, we golfed with random golfers at the Butterfield Par 3($24 each). We had a bit of get together at the Lazy Coyote RV...
