Feb 17, 2016 - El Paso West RV Park (2/11 - 2/12/16)

We arrived in El Paso, TX on the 11th. We were going to stay in an RV park just east of the city, but our GPS put us on a bypass road and we couldn't get down to where we needed to be. We ended up taking a loop road around the city. It was a nice ride but it took us over a rather high mountain. The RV growled a bit as it was quite a climb, but made it. We found an RV park on the west side of El Paso, a couple of miles into New Mexico in Anthony. Anthony crosses the border of Texas and New Mexico. We were actually lucky to get there when we...

Feb 7, 2016 - Anthony New Mexico

Our morning started out at a cool 25 degrees but they say it is should get up to mid 60’s today. We left Van Horn, which is not much of a town, heading west on I-10 for our next stop in El Paso Texas. We finally found a truck wash at the Petro truck stop and it sure needed it. Got the motorhome washed and the truck for a mere $50.00 which could not beat that price. We headed west again and stopped at the local Wal-Mart to pick up some supplies. Need to get to our campground before the big game today. Sure did enjoy this drive today because...

2016 Westward HO

Mar 16, 2013 - Mountain Travel

Today was another travel day and this one crossed mountains, both the Sacramento and San Andres ranges and offered fabulous views of God's artistry. One thing worth noting is the white streak at the base of a range that appeared to us as we reached a summit. We thought it was a low lying fog but it became more solid as we got closer. Linda realized what we were seeing was the beauty of White Sands National Monument. The gypsum showed so bright from a distance and remained beautiful close up. We had been there previously, but to see it...

The Gypsy Whaylands

Feb 10, 2013 - Day 209 - Anthony, Texas/ New Mexico

We survived the windy night and put out our slides in the morning. We headed into town to get groceries and discovered that although our campsite and Camper World are in Texas, two miles down the road we are in New Mexico. Another town like Lloydminster. We explored town a little and the spent a lazy day in the bus recovering from our Carlsbad aches. Garry is getting increasing concerned about the Charger/Inverter in the bus. It has never worked as he felt it should, and he has been adjusting if manually all the time, when it should work...

The Wandering Nunns

Jan 16, 2012 - A 453-Mile Trek to TX/NM Border

Moving Day! We were ready to roll and pulling out of our site by 7:45 in misty, rainy and overcast skies. They really missed this one in the forecasts! It really was a pretty uneventful drive for the first part of the day. The skies remained overcast and it remained misty till mid-day. We were going along familiar roadways and out in western Texas, well – it’s ALL pretty much the same. The one thing we did see more than normal were the amount of Border Patrol vehicles riding along the dirt trails running parallel to the highway – almost...

Jan 9, 2008 - Anthony, Texas (Camping World Campground)

January 9-10/08 We hit the road again hoping to get to a warmer climate. We picked the south part of Texas, Mission to be exact. So we headed down I-10 to Anthony, just outside El Paso, to get suspension air bags put on the truck. We stayed at the Camping World campground for two nights. Mike and I went to see "Alvin and the Chipmunks" and just relax. We also finally got a chance to wash the bugs of the front of the RV that have been piling up... stupid bugs. Photos (click images above): There was a fairly decent view from the campground...

Apr 29, 2007 - Movin' On to Anthony, NM, Our 19th State!

Sunday, April 29, we had rain during the night but it was sunny when I awoke. I went out for an early morning walk and was surprised by the acrid smell in the air. We noticed all day whenever we drove through a rain shower. Bob surmised it might be the pollutants in the air interacting with the soil. It was a beautiful morning. The sun was creating nice patterns on the mountain peaks. They look different every time you see them. I kept passing an older gentleman who was walking around the circle in the opposite direction. We must have been...

Oct 12, 2006 - Anthony, NM and our friend Jen

After leaving Abilene we headed on out Interstate 20 toward El Paso, Texas and had great weather, good roads, and very little traffic so it was an easy going day. After connecting with Interstate 10 we made a fuel stop in Sierra Blanca, Texas at a Petro Truck-stop and shortly there after things really started going downhill as we were going up hill over the small mountain range along the Mexican/American border just east of El Paso. As we climbed the mountain passes our truck started losing power and pulling two trailers that is not a good...
