January 18, 2020 – Sweetwater, Texas to Hobbs, New Mexico This morning I visited the National WASP Museum. The WASPs are a little known group of women who were the 1st ever to fly aircraft in the US military. They paved the way for the women who went into space and who fly all kinds of aircraft in combat and non-combat conditions today. Each year there is a reunion held at the Museum. This year’s reunion had only 2 attendees. There are only 30 or so of these remarkable still living. Just like the men who fought in WW2, these veterans are...

Mar 18, 2016 - Hobbs, NM

Continuing west in very dense fog we went on I-20 to Hwy 84 to US 180 into Hobbs where we stayed at Zia RVillas. The trip brought us by field after field of cotton. We learned that this area grows 70% of all cotton grown in Texas. Much to Dale's chagrin, there was a Casino here. After helping the economy just a little, we decided to eat in their bar which looks out over their horse race track. Excellent lunch here of their nachos and burgers.

Winter 2016

Jan 25, 2012 - yay we made it out of texas

We are like 2/3 thru our trip...I can't believe it! Saw some interesting sites traveling 180 thru wast texas. Decided to get off the interstate for a bit...no drafting opportunities...which also means we had something else to look at aside from the rear end of a truck. Many towns that are just closed down...have to wonder what built them up in the first place...and why did they fail...strange! No road runner sightings yet...really want to see one! But, lotsa tumbleweeds! The temp has really dropped again...30s at night and 50s in day...

Mar 30, 2008 - Hobbs, New Mexico

3/30 – 3/31 The next two days we continued our journey along US84. Our first night stop was at a Wal-Mart in Abilene, Texas. Joan was really impressed with the Wal-Mart and has selected it as the number one Wal-Mart in the world! She marveled over the spaciousness, prices, and availability of many unique products. On the last day of the month we departed from US84 (which started heading northerly) and followed US180, US62 and SR18. After two days and 417 miles we ended the month with a stop at another Wal-Mart in Hobbs City, New Mexico....

Nov 28, 2007 - Stop over in Hobbs, New Mexico.

We left a day later than I mentioned. We were paid up to the end of the month, but decided to leave today. We both think a month is a long time in one place, but it is a lot cheaper to pay for your spot that way. You usually save about 1/3 of the daily cost. Sometimes you also have to pay your own electric tho. The rv park we are staying in tonight is called Zia RVillas. It is just another large gravel parking lot type rv park. It is supposed to get down in the low 20's tonight so we will see how warm we stay in our wheel estate. It cost...
