We left Natchez and the snow behind and took the next three days to cross Texas. Everything IS bigger in Texas. East Texas was pretty much the same; the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex was “white knuckle”; but then west Texas was beautiful. It was on this third day that we were able to leave the Interstate and begin traveling how we like it…the slow road. One Day @ a Time

Jan 31, 2009 - Alamogordo, NM/White Sands

We camped in a very nice New Mexico state park, just south of Alamogordo, NM. After spending the night here, we left early the next morning and headed to White Sands National Monument, which is west of Alamogordo. What a wonderful place right in the middle of the desert! There is a huge deposit of crystalized gypsum which makes a really nice sand - and not dusty at all. We had a blast playing here. We bought some plastic discs to slide down the dunes here. The guys just had a good time digging holes and piling up bunches of sand to jump...
