Oct 7, 2019 - UFO Country

Beamed over to see the aliens in Roswell New Mexico. Not much here, but we did visit the Alien Museum. Outlined the entire history of the crash and cover up from 1947 to present. Very interesting. Nothing much else to do here. Passed on driving a long time to see Billy the Kid's Grave site. No to the military and Aviation Museum. Headed out to see a State Park, but it wasn't open despite their web page stating they were. Sooo, we visited a nearby wildlife preservation area. Apparently there is an under ground aquafer that feeds small...

May 20, 2019 - Roswell, NM - Int'l UFO Center

May 20th: Roswell, NM We are staying about 20 miles east of Roswell, NM at the Bottomless Lakes State Park. There are several small lakes here that we have learned are actually sink holes. We are wondering if we really want to stay in an RV in area known for sinkholes. Is that a good idea? This park has a nice stone tower and a couple of stone buildings that were built in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC). All over this country, we have benefited from the work done as a result of the projects completed by the CCC...

Feb 4, 2019 - Fun in Roswell

Roswell is a popular city in New Mexico renowned as the site of an alleged 1947 UFO crash. The International UFO Museum and Research Center have display panels and a library. We enjoyed driving all over Main Street and spotting all the aliens and spaceships all over town. We were very happy to find a great campground for only $31 a night, a nice pull-through site with all the hookups. We had a great dinner at the Cattle Baron Restaurant in town, they had an awesome salad bar and we had their chopped sirloin steak, it was one of the best we...

Feb 3, 2019 - Roswell, New Mexico

We were on the road again early this morning. We drove about 325 miles to Roswell, New Mexico. The drive was beautiful at first and then it turned into nothing but oil wells on both sides of the road. The drive was fast and easy until we reached Pecos, Texas. We ran into a lot of wind and terrible roads that were under construction for over 60 miles. We were so happy to finally reach New Mexico where the roads were fine again. :-) We had so much wind we had to stop and fix the slide out cover on the side of the road, the wind blew it out...

Oct 24, 2018 - ET, Phone Home

I was surprised this morning to see it was still raining. Saw on the news this morning, depending on the area, they had received up to an inch of rain since yesterday. 3 hour drive was basically uneventful except for the rain which didn’t stop until I was about 50 miles north of Roswell. Took US 285 off of I-40 and immediately ran into some more of that flat, desolate type of landscape. Other than the run down town of Vaughan, rarely a building in site and sometimes not even a car until I got w/ in 20 miles of Roswell. Roswell itself is...

Aug 12, 2018 - New Mexico, Part 5

Do you believe in UFOs? Do you think we have been visited by extraterrestrial beings? Do you think the government and military are covering up the truth? The folks of Roswell, N.M., do. They have established the International UFO Museum and Research Center. That’s where we stopped today. Roswell is a typical southeast New Mexico town. We had to drive over the Rocky Mountains at Apache Pass, elevation 7,591 feet, to get to Roswell. The town is surrounded mostly by cattle ranches. It was on one of these ranches that the Roswell Incident...

Jul 5, 2018 - Tombstone, Douglas, Area 51, and Billy the Kid

At the end of the last update I talked about my son and how I kept my pager/cell number for about 25 years. When I got the pager in the early 90s it was from a company called Ameritech. Ameritech eventually became Verizon. It has been easy to stay with Verizon all of these years while so many others change their carriers and their numbers about every year. Yes, there are less expensive alternatives, but there are none with the coverage and customer support of Verizon. It always amazes me to hear people complain about their cell phone...

OTR with M and R

Mar 31, 2018 - Happy Easter

We're on the road again moving from Arizona to Oklahoma City. Our stop tonight is in Roswell, New Mexico. It has been a smooth trip so far. The general plan is to arrive at Roadrunner on April 3 and be in Colorado at the KOA Fort Collins by May 4. We'll be there through September 4 before returning to Oklahoma and then back to Arizona next winter. Our winter weather-wise was one of the very best we've had in Arizona. It's always nice but this one was especially mild. It was a difficult one personally as we lost two dear friends, Barbara...

Mar 14, 2018 - Shopping!!

Well, we did go shopping all morning! However, it wasn't for clothes or furniture, or toys. We were shopping for a tire rim, but not just any rim. It had to be a 20 inch rim and as it turned out, it was an after market rim, so of course NO ONE had one. We visited every tire shop in Roswell including a salvage yard! And yes, Roswell has about 6 places who sells tires and stuff. We went to Discount tires and they wanted to sell her 4 new tires with the rims for $800. This was with a discount for the two new tires we purchased yesterday in...

Last Minute Trip

Mar 13, 2018 - Day One

So last week, we were in Onalaska for our monthly rally and we received a phone call from our baby. She wanted to get out of town for spring break (don't know why she picked Roswell) and wanted to know if I wanted to go with her. I thought about it and after talking it over with Bob, decided to go. We arrived home from the rally on Monday about 3 pm and I unpacked I could pack again. Heather picked me up this morning about 6 and we headed out of town. First stop was for breakfast. Pretty soon we were back on the road. Decided we would stop...

Last Minute Trip

Jan 31, 2018 - Wednesday, Roswell New Mexico

Today we visited the Army/Navy store that was closed on Monday. What a dump. It reminded me of an indoor junk yard. It could be another Storming Normans. This was a wasted trip there. We ended up going to Wal-Mart and picking up some stuff and done the Pizza Hunt Buffett, it was just a Pizza Hut. It was a beautiful day in the mid 70's and clear skies. We were planning to stay here until Saturday but may leave on Friday heading to Tombstone AZ. We will stop somewhere along the route because it is about 450 mile to Tombstone.

2018 Winter

Jan 30, 2018 - Tuesday, Roswell New Mexico

We were going to do some touring around but there isn't much here. Candy decided to get her nails done so when she returned we would tour. Well she went to get the nails done and 4 hours later she returned. It took a lot of time. We called it for the day. This trip will have less sites we see because we are spending more time at campground instead of being on the road. Lots of time to kill.
